The grass they were sat in looked a silvery green in the light from the bright moon, the sky and all the stars in it reflected on the still water of the lake in front of them, and so did the fireworks exploding in the sky. It was perfect, because Roman had made sure it would be. It had to be. Everything had to be perfect for his date with Patton.

His dates with Patton always needed to be perfect, because Patton deserved nothing less, but today especially. Not that he had actually told Patton this was one of their dates.

He'd wanted it to be more of a surprise. After all, a proposal should be a surprise, should it not? Then why not have the whole date as a surprise. Though he was fairly sure Patton had at least figured this was some sort of surprise date by now.

Roman glanced at Patton, seeing him still with his eyes glued on the sky, and Roman had never before been so happy about his ability to control and form the imagination.

It answered to all his wants, as long as he could imagine it, and fireworks were easy. Roman had spent last night brainstorming all kinds of fireworks that Patton would like to see. He had a few minutes ago amazed Patton with fireworks that exploded into glittery images of several different kinds of cute animals.

"Too bad Logan and Virgil didn't want to come." Patton said, almost looking a bit sad but then gasping softly when another firework exploded in the sky.

"Yeah." Roman said, glad Patton wasn't looking at him since he'd never been the best at lying or keeping things a secret. Patton could always see right through him. Truth be told Roman had cornered the two other traits before dinner, telling them to not under any circumstances agree when he later suggested they all went into the imagination to watch fireworks.

Virgil had just smirked in a knowing way and said he hadn't wanted to go anyway, Logan had raised his brows in a way that suggested he too knew exactly why Roman wanted them far away and said nothing.

Roman didn't feel bad about leaving them out, especially not tonight. Despite, he was sure the two nerds would rather be reading, or watching tv, or some other antisocial activity.

Roman put an arm around Patton's shoulders, pressing a kiss to his cheek. He wanted to conjure up a thousand roses for Patton, make a billion fireflies rise from the grass around them, make glitter fall from the sky, but maybe that was a bit extra even for Roman. Or maybe not, but Roman didn't want Patton wondering if tonight was anything special, even if it was.
