We left the Pu'uhonua O Hōnaunau National Historical Park and then walked to Honaunau Bay, which was two minutes away.
Honaunau Bay is one of the most famous diving spots in Kona, since the corals there are relatively healthy and the amount of fish and turtles is immense. Other added benefit to the spot is the easy access from the coast.
In addition, Honaunau has shallower areas and deeper ones, so you have snorkeling for all kinds of tastes, at least that's what my mother said on the way here.
My parents go to an establishment that is close to the beach and come back dressed in a wetsuit and with snorkels in their hands.
"How long have you been planning this?" I ask my mother.
"We didn't plan anything. Will's parents were already going to do this tour. We just decided to join in."
I turn to look at Will, who's beside me.
"So you're to blame for this?" I ask, referring to all these trips.
Will fix the power of his gaze on me and licks his lips, which makes me gulp as my eyes follow the movement of his tongue. I then force myself to look into his eyes, but the smile that graces his face tells me my reaction didn't go unnoticed.
"No, my parents are," he says.
I roll my eyes, ignoring my racing heart.
"Anyway," my mother continues with a dreamy look on her face as she looks at the landscape "I've always wanted to come here so I bought the wetsuit in Kailua, I would have got one for you too if I didn't already know your answer would be no."
"You know me well," I answer instantly.
"I raised you, boy. It's a pity though. It's so beautiful here, you would like it."
"Maybe next time," I answer, and my mom sends me a skeptical look.
"What about you, Will?" my mother asks.
"I've been here before. How about you and my parents enjoy the diving and I keep Nico company?"
"Are you sure?"
"Absolutely."
"Alright then."
Will's parents were already in wetsuits too. They had come back when my mother was talking to us.
We follow our parents to the seashore and watch as they prepare to enter the water. Will keeps close to me, but remains silent.
I cannot avoid looking at him discreetly, he has his eyes closed and hands in his pockets, he then takes a deep breath and opens his eyes absorbing the vision of nature around us, when he turns to look at me I divert quickly focusing my eyes on the sea.
We walk along the coast, on the rocks. The water is crystal clear and on the shallow side I can see several fish and corals with varied shapes, colors and sizes.
