CHAPTER 40

After four years

"How is he?" Tanong sa akin ni Luke pagkapasok niya sa hospital room, at saka siya umupo sa tabi ko malapit sa hospital bed.

"The doctor said.." Huminga ako nang malalim bago ipinagpatuloy ang sasabihin. "..Kailangan niyang masalinan ng dugo." Nag-aalala kong saad.

Nakita ko naman na nalungkot siya sa sinabi ko. "Ano bang blood type niya?" Tanong niya habang nakatingin sa nakapikit na pasyente.

I sighed deeply, "Blood type B positive." I replied. "And.. hindi kami nag-match." Napaluha na ako pagkasabi ko nun. "Wala rin daw silang blood type B na stock ngayon. And.." I sob. "The doctor also said, he needs a blood transfusion as soon as possible bago pa umabot sa brain niya ang pag-bleeding niya that can lead to death."

Hindi ko na alam ang gagawin ko. I can't lose him. I can't afford to lose him.

"Ssh. Tahan na. Everything will be alright." Malumanay niyang saad while he's combing my hair using his fingers. And then, he wiped away my tears.

Pero hindi ko pa rin mapigilan ang pagpatak ng luha ko. I need to be strong. I need to be strong for this patient.

Pilit kong inalis sa isip ko ang mga negative thoughts. Kailangan kong maging positibo para makapag-isip ako ng dapat kong gawin.

"T-Thanks." Ngumiti na lang ako nang pilit.

I'm so thankful to have him by my side. But...

"Where's Leona? I haven't seen her around for a week already." I asked him. Kapatid ni ate Isabel si Leona, at bestfriend ni ate Fein si ate Isabel. Ate Fein is my cousin, sa side ni daddy.

"She went to meet her old classmates. And they went to a beach resort para sa wedding ng classmate niya." He simply said.

"Why didn't you went with her? You should have accompanied her." Naitanong ko habang pinaniningkitan siya ng mata.

I heard him chuckled. Pero hindi ko na lang pinansin at binaling na lang ang atensyon ko sa nakahigang pasyente.

It's been a year mula nang magkita ulit kami ni ate Fein. Napapunta siya kasama si ate Isabel dito sa Singapore, sa house ng tita ni ate Isabel dahil may tinataguan daw siya. Ewan ko kung sino. And now, she went back to Philippines five months ago with a guy na tinataguan niya.

Ate Isabel stayed here with her sister. She introduced Leona to us a week after ate Fein left the country. Leona is a year younger than me. She's now twenty-one years old, while I'm twenty-two. Luke is twenty-three.

Luke courted Leona two weeks after siya i-introduced sa amin and naging sila after one and a half month na panliligaw ni Luke. 'Yun ang kwento ni Luke sa akin. Siya daw ang nanligaw. Pero sa nakikita ko, parang hindi niya pina-prioritize si Leona. Kawawa naman tuloy 'yung tao.

"You should stop sticking with me. Lagi na lang ako ang sinasamahan mo, imbis na 'yung girlfriend mo." Saad ko makalipas ang ilang sandali.

I'm happy for the both of them. But somehow, I felt guilty. Sa tuwing may lakad kasi si Leona, at may problema o lakad din ako, laging ako ang pinipiling samahan ni Luke. Hindi ko naman alam paano niya nalalaman na may lakad o problema ako. Hindi ko naman sinasabi sa kanya ang bagay na 'yun. Pero sa tuwing wala naman akong problema o lakad, sinasamahan naman niya si Leona. I know they love each other. Dahil nakikita ko 'yun sa mga mata nila. To be honest, I didn't felt jealous at all. Even though I had a crush on him.

Hindi ako nakaramdam ng selos because my heart is already occupied by someone. Someone I would never forget.

I sighed deeply.
