Monday

After being signed out by my parents from the hospital yesterday, all I could think of was what other people thought about me now. I had disappeared for a day, which ruined my perfect attendance score, and now I come back with stitches, an eye patch, and a permanent scowl etched on my face.

I tied my hair back into a messy ponytail, and swept some hair in front of the eye patch. I grabbed a sweater from my room and headed out.

"Hey, Chael. Take this." Margaret shoved a black scarf into my arms as soon as she saw me walk into the line for school. I guess she knew that I was kind of sensitive about the stitches in my neck, or maybe it was just an early birthday gift. It was soft to the touch, but also thin enough so that I wouldn't sweat to death if I wore it all day.

"Uh, thanks?" I wore the scarf, and headed to my locker as soon as the teacher opened the doors for us.

"Hi, Chael~! How are you- why in the world are you wearing a scarf in the middle of spring?" Kaitlyn hugged me with an iron grip and spun me around with a huge grin. I gasped for air as soon as she put me down.

"I, uh, got cold this morning, and this scarf was really comfortable." I told her quietly, as I gathered my things and headed to class. Mr. Alexander was at the door way again, there to greet us all as we entered into the classroom. I settled down at my desk, pulling out a book to entertain myself while waiting for the morning announcement.

"Good morning class. I'm gonna take attendance now- Ike, be quiet. You too, Kane." Just then, Seira sat down beside me, rattling the chair rather loudly. When my name was called, I answered to the best of my ability, seeing as my throat still hurt a lot.

"Uh, Chael?" The teacher asked. I coughed slightly, and answered him.

"H-Here." My throat felt like it was being torn into. I drank some water and he continued. Sometimes it amazes me how anybody can hear so well.

"What's wrong, Chael? Does your boo-boo hurt, you suicidal freak?" Seria sneered beside me. I just ignored her, and kept reading. She started kicking my chair to get my attention.

"Alright, a**hat, what do you want?" I glared at her. She snickered, and kicked my chair again. I exhaled deeply to remember that breaking arms was not an option right now. Maybe the legs, but...

"I asked you a question, maggot. Answer it. Unless you're going to go cry in the washroom again and finish what you started." Now breaking an ankle seemed like a good idea. Right then, Mr. Alexander asked us all to close our books and put away notes and stuff we had lying around. It was time for a math test that I never studied for. At least it made Seria shut up. For now.

Recess rolled around the corner as I finished up the test and handed it in. Apparently, Helena had been waiting for me somewhere around the corner, and dragged me to the washroom. I didn't stop her because I was too lazy to, so I stuck around the see what she had to say to me.

"Listen, Chael, I know I haven't been the best person to you. I've been a female dog to you and it got us nowhere. I just wanted to apologize and maybe see if we can still be friends?" I searched Helena's eyes for any trickery, but she was being sincere. She had sucked up all her pride and apologized for fighting. Something I could never do.

"Helena... You've done a lot of things to make me feel miserable about myself since you became best friends with Margaret. I don't think I'll ever forget that. And I know, I've threatened you multiple times, on multiple occasions, so sorry about that. But regardless of what you have done, I forgive you. And yeah, I think I want to be friends." Her expression started off as a frown, but it ended up turning into a smile. A really happy smile. I've got to admit, I liked that feeling when her eyes lit up with joy and hugged me.

"You've got to promise me you'll stop threatening to break people's limbs though." Welp. I was really hoping she wouldn't bring that up.

"Come on! You know it's my reputation here to break limbs and occasionally, organs." I fake-pouted. Helena whacked me over the head with her hand.

"No, your reputation is terrorizing the kids and Mr. Adler." She deadpanned. Ouch. How blunt can she get?

"Fine, you caught me. I'll only do it if it's necessary." I promised her. She gives me a light smile.

*Lunch*

It's lonely sitting by yourself. Kaitlyn, Zeal, and Kellain aren't sitting with me today. They're with Margaret and Bella, chatting away ever-so happily. They've forgotten about me. Maybe that's what I deserve.

You can't rely on friends, or family. They'll only leave you.

*After school*

"Hey, Chael! Hold on for a moment!" It's Ryze. Wonder what he wants. A taller, lanky boy is following right behind him. A boy from Mr. Adler's class. Aiden, I think his name was.

"What is it, Ryze? I'm sort of busy at the moment." My eyes narrowed into a glare. Ryze was known to be a trickster, but he's also very well known in the school for being one of the smartest people. Aiden was  a quiet kid who didn't have much friends. He's got a talent for being able to move pretty fast. Apparently people say that he's really funny, but I'll believe it when I see it.

"Slow down there, Peter Pan. I know you aren't in a rush to do anything. You finished homework in class. Almost everyone knows how much you hate homework." Ryze blocks my path. I roll my eyes and shrug.

"But it's hot, and too bright out here. I want to go home, take a shower, and just relax." I complained. He crossed his arms with a smirk displayed on his stupid face.

"How about some ice-cream then? Would that keep you cool enough for me to finish?" He whips out $15 and drags me to the ice-cream truck parked conveniently across the street from the school. The line is empty today.

"Hello kids! What would you two like today?" The guy inside the truck smiles widely.

"Three twists please." The man makes us three chocolate-vanilla twists; one for me, one for Ryze, and one for Aiden. I haven't had ice-cream in a long time. Mainly because I never had the money or time to treat myself. Spent it all on cards.

"Alright, get to the point. What have you pulled me aside for today? A favour? A prank? Something stupid?" Ryze sits down on a large rock beside a tree.

"No, no. Nothing of that sort. I was wondering if you, uh, wanted this. I don't need it, and you're the only other person who actually likes Iron Man." He shoves towards me a canvas with Iron Man and Stark Tower in the background. I take it, eyeing him suspiciously. It's got his name scribbled in the corner.

"I'm not even going to ask how you knew that. You drew this?" I pointed to the painting to the best of my ability, since I was still holding the ice-cream. He nodded eagerly. I set down my bag and grabbed a pen from my pencil case. I scribbled my name beside his, and shoved it towards Aiden. He looked at me,  unsure of what to do. I motioned for him to sign it as well, and give it back to Ryze.

"No, Ryze. You keep that. One day, when you meet RDJ, get him to sign it. You're the only guy who's got enough money to even meet the dude and get his signature." I told him. I started walking back to my house.

"Why'd you sign it then?" He called after me. I stopped to answer him.

"Maybe I want him to know that I exist too."

Maybe I should have kept the painting. That was a really good looking one too.
