Maybe you can stall him. The bad guy loves to torment the good guy with his evil plan, right? Watch them squirm? You're not even sure if you can talk but it's worth a shot, right? It's not like you have anything else to lose at this point.

"Why?" you ask, "why me?"

Your voice is so small.

You sound so weak and scared.

You aren't sure he heard you.

He grabs your hair and you squeeze your eyes shut so you don't have to look at him.

"It was never about you. Or it was never about you personally, anyway. It could have been any human that the gods have a soft spot for. Your involvement is meaningless and the second all the gods are vanquished we'll erase every trace of you."

It's working.

You're stalling him.

Fuck, he's scary.

"You're just a means to an end. The straw that breaks the camel's back. Tension and hostility between us and your gods has been brewing for centuries and each side is looking for an excuse to start fighting again. And this time, when we fight, we'll win."

"You're looking for an excuse to break the new treaty and start fighting again?"

He strikes the wall, just millimeters from your head, and snickers. You sneak a quick peek and he's just staring at you with malice in his eyes.

"We already have one. What we need is to give the gods a reason to get angry enough to take up arms."

"So why wait? Why go through this elaborate scheme when you could just start killing?"

"Father wants to be above killing non-combatants when they were not."

"What do you mean?"

"You really are naive, aren't you?"

He gets up.

"You're lucky, human. I haven't been given the order to kill you, yet. But..."

Why are you suddenly looking down at your body?

He's reaching for you.

And you can move again.

You dodge. Tendrils of darkness shoot out to try and catch you but you manage to dart out of his reach in a blind panic. You don't know what he'll do to your soul if he catches you but you don't intend to find out.

You need to find Zeldris.

You need to get out of here.

And somehow, when Estarossa's not around, you need to come back for your body. You only look back long enough to make sure your body is still breathing and, once you're sure it is, you fly through a wall.

And straight into the Demon King.
