Chapter 35
Josh
I had lost track of how long I had been here. The metal bars trapped me and I hated it. I needed to be with Kelly. I needed to make sure that she was ok. I knew I had messed up big time with her and I needed to know where we stood. I can't handle myself without her.
Officer Daniels comes up to my cell and gets my attention.
"Elroy looks like you lucked out. You'll be on probation if course needing to do community service. But someone has sprung you"
My eyebrows pull together as I hesitate before standing up and leaving the cell. I follow Officer Daniels as he leads me through the station.
"Coach?" I ask bewildered.
He was the last person I expected to see here. Especially for me after what I did.
"I'll just need you to sign some paperwork for me Josh" Officer Daniels says holding out a clipboard towards me.
I wrack my brain trying to figure out why he would be here and why he bailed me. I would've thought he would think I needed to spend my life in a cell.
After signing a few slips and agreeing to sixty hours of community service, I walk out the front door.
Coach Blake is leaning against his car with his arms folded over his chest.
I walk down the stairs and stop in front of him. Neither of us speak for a few moments.
"How is he?"
Coach looks up at me and studies my face before opening the passenger side door of his car. He jerks his head in the direction of the seat and walks around to the other side of his car. I hesitate before getting in and shutting the door behind me.
"He has a concussion. He hasn't woken up in a few days."
A few days? I beat him up that bad to where he's been unconscious for days?
What was wrong with me?
"I'm so sorry coach. I never meant for any of this to happen I was just-"
He holds a hand up to silence me.
"I know you didn't mean it. Kelly told me everything. I know Logan has a temper and he didn't have a right to hit you or push you. But you didn't need to hit him back. Putting someone in the hospital is serious Josh."
"I know"
"Do you?" He asks glancing at me from the corner of his eye.
"I-" I begin but stop myself
"You what?"
"I just needed to see her." I mumble
Coach lets out a deep breath and adjusts his grip on the wheel.
"I'm so sorry about everything"
"You're a good kid. I hate seeing you ruin your life like this. I get why you're doing it. Hell I did the same thing when I met Van. But you need to be careful. You're pushing her away more than pulling her close"
"I know coach. I just need five minutes with her so I can tell her the truth."
"Which is?"
I hesitate. I wasn't sure this was the type of conversation I should be having with her father.
"Josh" coach says sternly.
"What is it you need to tell her?"
"That- That I cant live without her, and that I'm utterly in love with her"
