Chapter 38
I stab at the food on my plate as the letter and flash drive replay in my head. This whole time Josh has been in love with me and he didn't say anything. Even after I told him he didn't say anything. He made me think that this was just a phase for him.
"Kelly!" Logan says snapping me out of my thoughts.
"Huh?"
"Can you pass the mashed potatoes please"
I grab the bowl of mashed goodness and hand it to Logan.
"Are you ok?" He asks me as he takes two big scoops and piles them on his plate.
"Me? Yeah I'm fine"
"You're thinking about Josh aren't you?"
My silence was answer enough for him. He lets out a deep breath and passes the bowl to Thalia.
"Listen Kel. I know how you feel about him and it was wrong of me to keep you guys apart. I'm so sorry for all the trouble I caused you and for what I said at grandmas funeral. I hated him for taking the captain position from me and I didn't step back and see what was actually happening."
Thalia grabs his hand and interlocks their fingers. He turns and gives her a smile before he puts his attention back on me.
"I didn't see how he was making you feel and I'm so sorry for that. You've made so many sacrifices for me and I didn't even give you a chance. Especially after you let me have the love of my life. I'm such a shitty brother can you forgive me?"
I raise an eyebrow at him and glance at my mother and father who had dropped their forks and put their attention on us.
"You are a shitty brother. And I wanted so bad to hit you when you said I was dead to you."
Logan's face falls and he flinches.
"But I love you and I know you were trying to help me. Even if you went about it the wrong way. Even if you can be a dick you are still my brother and you'll always be my brother. Of course I'll forgive you"
Logan beams at me and leans in to hug me.
"On one condition."
He pulls back and raises an eyebrow.
"You have to do my chores for a week."
"Deal" Logan says with a chuckle before wrapping me in a hug again.
A knock at the door pulls us apart. My dad gets up to answer but I stop him.
"I'll get it"
He smiles at me before sitting back down and resuming his meal.
I walk towards the front door and swing it open.
"Josh hey."
A small weak smile curves up his lips.
"Hey. I uh. Just wanted to give this back" he says handing me Logan's T-shirt that he borrowed.
"I washed it and then lost it, but I was going through my room packing and found it"
"Packing?"
"Yeah, my mom's anniversary party is this weekend. I have to drive out early tomorrow morning."
I had completely forgotten about that. I had promised Josh I would go with him before this whole mess between us. Now I wasn't even sure if he wanted me to go.
"I read the letter, and watched the slideshow"
His eyes widen slightly and his adam's apple bobs as he swallows. He doesn't say anything just watches me with those emerald eyes I had come to love.
