28 - Battle

Friday, March 28th, 5:13PM

When Harry and Vanessa arrived at the entrance of Battle of the Bands he pecked her on the cheeks. When he stepped away she glanced his green eyes. Then she pulled him into an embrace.

"I had a great time with you. Thank you for a lovely afternoon, Harry," Vanessa whispered to his ears. He felt the vibrations of her voice spread slowly all around his body.

Harry stole a glimpse of her while he fixed his curls and replied, "You're welcome love! I can't believe its almost six! Everything went too quick."

"Well, we spend like three hours together because you dragged me to the park where you and your friends filmed 'One Thing', instead of taking me to my cousins. But I loved being with you!"

Harry chuckled and blushed. Then he twirled strands of her red highlights with his fingers. "Have fun!"

"You too! Say hello to the guys for me!"

After they pulled in to separate directions, the curly-haired man paced towards the entrance of the concert. Before entering the premises, Harry had to go through a metal detecter. While that was happening Harry faced Vanessa. In that moment she noticed his wide grin. He pulled out his ticket and flagged it at her as he proceeded the check-in. She shook her head, remembering back when her and her two cousins were going to One Direction concert. After Harry was swollen up by the crowd, Vanessa headed for the backstage.

When Vanessa was granted entrance, she marched her way to find the girls. She stopped abruptly when a pair of gray-sweater arms hugged her. Her younger cousin giggled.

"C'mon Lesley! Save your energy for our performance," Vanessa whined. The eldest cousin came in from behind too.

Before Vanessa could greet Stephanie, she spoke. "Glad you're here. Remember that we'll be playing 'Alternate Universe' and 'This Melody' for the first round." Stephanie glanced at Vanessa, so that she knew she was listening to her. Stephanie believed that her cousin was still thinking about her date with Harry.

Afterwards Stephanie said, "The two winning groups will proceed to the next round and perform the last two songs. If we win this first round, in the second round we'll play 'My Summer Sensation' and 'Anguished Connection'.

Lesley released her cousin and beamed at her. "Whoever wins will sing the closing song and be in the finals next month!" Vanessa giggled.

"And we will play 'Electric Eyes'," Stephanie added.

Vanessa couldn't believe all this was about to happen. "I'm glad everything's settled! I'm so nervous! Did you see how big the crowd is?" Vanessa had her arms wide open.

"Oh my god yes!" Stephanie added, covering her mouth.

"Five minutes!" Someone yelled through speakers. The girls high-fived each other.

Then another voice said, "All bands must be at the main backstage right now!"

"Let's do this!" yelled Vanessa as she hurried through the streams of people.

The moment Vanessa noticed Jared in the group of people, she didn't feel any contempt. The queasy feeling she had for him at Kyle's grad party-Breton's older brother-, didn't reappear. The irritation she felt for him at the rehearsals never exploded inside her. They could have been a great band with Jared as the drummer, but they were leaving to the United States soon. Nonetheless, it was a prefect evening for a gig.
