I returned to the house despite everything. I went back to the small cramped apartment. I had all of my things there and I didn't know where else to go. I didn't want to think I was not normal. I wanted to believe that he loved me.
"Why is the carpet not clean?" he said pointing with his socked toe towards the floor.
"I didn't get a chance to clean it yet," I said.
"You should have."
He raised his hand and I flinched like a battered dog. He laughed at that. But then he'd be so kind later. He took me out for French cuisine and bought me whatever I wanted in clothes. This was unlike Ted. Ted wouldn't let me go to the store whenever I wanted. I told myself into thinking this was a better result. But it came to the point where he wouldn't let me spend my money on something, and that became something special.
