Night time fell on the Cul DeSac. May and Ed had gone home for the Evening and Marie was going to stay with Eddy and Lee who had already gone to sleep for the night. Marie laid there for a while unable to sleep. She sat on the side of the guestroom bed and lit a cigarette. Her thoughts raced. She kept thinking about Edd and Sarah being married and all of the awful things her sisters told her. "I just don't get it. Of all people why Sarah?" She stood up and walked to the window. The winter moonlight glistened off of her bare legs and arms as she looked out the window at Edd's house. "Double D, I wish I would have stayed for you or at least tried to take you with me." As she looked out the window she saw the front door open. Someone came out of the house and began walking down the street. Although thier back was turned she could recognize that black sock hat anywhere. "Double D?" She said both excited but still sad. Marie looked at the clock and saw it was past midnight. "Where is he going?" She thought as she watched him. When he crossed the street and began taking the trail into the woods she knew exactly where he was going. "The clearing!" Marie quickly put on her pants and her boots, rushed down the stairs, and out the door not even stopping to put on her coat.

Edd walked through the woods. It was dark, but between the moonlight and Edd making this journey many times he knew exactly where he was. He walked slowly and with no purpose. Marie caught up to him but did not make herself known, she just quietly followed. As she did she planned on what exactly she was going to do. "Once we get to the clearing and he sits down I'll tackle him and call him oven mitt. Just like when we were kids." She though. However double D walked straight past the clearing and continued into the woods. This didn't make sense to Marie. The only other thing down the trail was, "Wait is he going to? The old trailer?" She continued to follow as they came into the old trailer lot on the edge of the construction site she expected to see the old trailer she grew up in only more run down than it used to be. However, what she saw was the trailer remarkably well kept. It had a deck added to it, and everything appeared to be in perfect shape. Edd stopped and looked at it, almost with a sense of pride. Marie assumed someone else must have moved in to it until Edd spoke. "Why did I do it? I purchased this property and spent all that time fixing it up and keeping it maintained in case she came back. Ahh, Eddward you fool. No one knows where she is. She's probably married to a model or rock star by now."

Marie couldnt believe what she heard, all she could muster was a single word with tears in her eyes, "Edd.."

Double D's ears jumped at the sound. He turned around slowly to see a beautiful girl with blue hair, "Marie? Marie Kanker?"

"Yea, it's me Edd." She said wiping the tear from her eye with a finger.

Edd was silent. He walked closer to her but cautiously, "Is this a dream or perhaps some kind of stress related hallucination?"

"No oven mitt it's really me."

Edd reached out his hand and touched the side of Marie's face. She was real, over come with Emotion Edd grabbed Marie by the waist and pulled her in close to him, "Marie you came back. You finally came back." Marie was sobbing uncontrollably as the two rocked back and forth embracing in the cold night air, as if dancing to music only they could hear.

Edd regained his senses and noticed Marie didn't have a coat, "Marie! You're going to catch a cold come on inside."

"Double D isn't this someone's house now?"

"We..well yes and no. You see I bought it after college and I have maintained it on the off chance you would arrive again some day. I did make a few repairs."

Edd pulled a key from his pocket and unlocked the door. Marie walked in and turned the lights on. She was amazed at how beautiful the old trailer looked inside. "Edd you did all of this?"

"Of course, I'm not all brains you know, I happen to also be very good with my hands. Plus Ed is a construction worker now so he also assisted."

"Wow, you completely changed everything."

"Well not everything." Edd said this gesturing marie to follow him down the hall. "I couldnt bring myself to change your old room." Edd opened the door and it was all exactly as marie left it. The only difference is everything was brand new. The paint was fresh the floors were the same but spotless, and even all her old posters were carefully hung just as they were.

"Edd this is amazing. How?"

"I have a very good memory. This is your home Marie." Edd took her hand and placed the key in it. Edd stared into her eyes, as he felt himself falling for Marie all over again he remembered the ring on his finger and let go of Marie's hand nervously saying, "Well it is quite late I should be going."

Marie stood in silence. Is that all there was? She had to many emotions and questions. But only one thing fell from her lips, "Why Sarah?"

Double D stopped in his tracks. "Excuse me?" He asked sheepishly.

"Why Sarah Double D?"

"I was alone Marie, I didn't want to be alone."

"Do you love her?"

Edd was silent.

Marie was angry again and screamed through the tears falling from her eyes, "DO YOU LOVE HER?"

Then Edd did something very uncharacteristic of his kind nature. He screamed as well." NO MARIE, I DO NOT LOVE SARAH! THE ONLY PERSON I EVER LOVED WAS AND IS YOU!" Marie fell dead silent, all she could do was stand with her mouth open at hearing this confession. "But you left Marie, one day you were at school, the next I came with a letter I intended to give you." Edd began crying. "But you never came back. I asked Lee and all she said was, "she took off" I was devastated. I locked myself in my room for weeks. I finally accepted it and went back to school. To make me feel better Ed insisted I go on a date with Sarah because she made him do it. I went, and even though she makes me miserable at least she is there. If you want to know the truth I hate Sarah, but I put up with her nagging, and screaming, and cheating, and all of the other things she does because at least someone is there. The only thing I can't stand more than all of the noise she makes is the deafening silence of being alone."

"Edd, what if I told you I came back for you? I have thought about you every day, do you even know why I left?"

Edd shook his head no.

"I left because Sarah over heard me telling May I loved you in the bathroom one day. After May left, Sarah told me that she knew you hated me. I believed her, after all you and Ed were best friends why wouldn't I believe her. I had the offer to leave with the band, and I figured why not? I was wanting to tell you how I felt but didn't see any point in it after talking to Sarah. I love you Edd, but that doesn't matter now. You married the person who drove us apart. I know you are too kind and caring to ever break someone's heart on purpose, especially your wife's. I can get on a bus and be out of here tomorrow."

Marie turned her back toward Edd and cried quietly. Edd's heart sank, was she really going to leave again? He would not allow that, not without a fight.

"Marie you have always been a risk taker. I abide the rules and like to do things safely. I promised myself long ago, if you ever came back, I could throw caution to the winds. I want you Marie, I always have." Edd placed a letter in Marie's hand, "Read this before you leave town. I promise Marie, I will not lose you again. I'll return here tomorrow evening. If you have not gone, I'll be yours and yours alone. I'm going to leave Sarah Immediately." With that Edd left the trailer, and walked through the woods toward home.

The letter was old looking and wrinkled. The envelope only said Marie she opened the letter and began to read:

My dearest Marie,

From the moment I met you you have intrigued me. Although at times your acts seem malicious, you are also very gentle. I love you. I love your blue hair and your devil may care attitude. I know you probably do not reciprocate these feeling as we are nothing alike, but if you would like to accompany me on a date, I'll wait for you after school by the gym.

Yours truly
Eddward

Upon finishing the note Marie fell to the floor holding the letter against her chest. She cried but not out of sadness, she hurt but not from pain. Her heart was just so full of emotions. She said to herself aloud. "Ok Edd, I'll stay."
