Anita Bellman: Fish and Chaps

The cafeteria is chock full of students as Jack takes a peek inside.

"Huh, I guess it couldn't hurt to eat something from there. I mean the food is good at least." Jack says to himself as he walks into the cafeteria and gets in line. The girl right in front of him has short platinum blonde hair and when she turns around, he finds himself staring into a pair of blue green eyes.

"Hej där." The girl says.

"I'm sorry... What?" Jack asks, confused.

"I said hi." The girl replies.

"Are you swedish?" Jack asks. "I mean it sounded like it."

"Yes it is." The girl replies. "I'm Anita. You?"

"Jack." Jack says as they continue down the line. Anita simply nabs a small carton of milk while Jack gets some vegetable udon and juice, and they decide to sit at a table together. "You didn't bring anything?"

"I did actually." Anita replies as she brings out a small lunchbox. As soon as she brings out the first container though, a weird smell fills Jack's nostrils. The container appears to be filled with some sort of flatbread, various veggies and what looks like fish.

"What is that smell?" Jack asks. "It smells weird."

"That must be the surströmming." Anita replies.

"Surströmming?" Jack asks. "What's that?" As soon as Anita opens the lid though, his face contorts and he covers his nose. "Oh! That smells!"

"That's surströmming." Anita replies. "Wanna try some?" She asks, picking out a piece and waggling it in front of Jack's face.

"Sure, why not." Jack says as he takes the small fillet of surströmming and pops it in his mouth. Almost instantly he starts gagging and coughing on the piece, scooting away from Anita so he doesn't accidentally get anything on her as he holds his neck.

"Jack? Are you okay?!" Anita asks, beginning to get worried. Other students stop eating to turn around and see what's going on as Jack quickly grabs his drink and quickly guzzles it down, and as soon as he stops drinking, he breathes heavily before wiping off his mouth and turning to Anita.

"...How do you stand this stuff?!" Jack asks. "I almost barfed!" He adds, coughing one last time before he completely recollects himself.

"It's not for everyone, sorry you had to go through that." Anita replies as Jack scoots back over to her and looks at his udon to regain his appetite. Now that the whole scene is over the other students resume eating as Jack and Anita continue to eat. Jack ends up drinking the last of his juice and looks to Anita.

"...You wouldn't mind grabbing another one for me?" Jack asks.

"Sure." Anita replies as she heads off to grab a drink for Jack. He tosses the empty bottle in the recycle and when Anita returns she's grabbed a drink for Jack, but it's an odd drink that he's never seen before. It's in a very small can, small enough that it could be comparable to the size of a probiotic shot.

"Um... What is this?" Jack asks. "White fungus drink...Bird's nest? I wanted juice... Oh well, might as well try it and see how it tastes..." Jack mumbles to himself as he eats the last of his udon and Anita finishes her food and starts drinking her milk. Jack opens the can like he would a normal soda can, and the liquid inside is a funky yellow color. "...Bottom's up I guess..." Jack says as he downs the whole can. As soon as he puts down the can, he reacts to the strange drink violently, coughing and hacking harder than before, and the contents of his stomach come spilling out as he vomits all over the floor, much to the horror of everyone in the cafeteria. As soon as the contents of Jack's stomach settle, someone cleans up the puddle of vomit and Jack is quickly escorted by Anita to the infirmary.

Jack's thoughts: She seems like an interesting girl but she eats the strangest of food. How does she even eat that surströmming without gagging, let alone drink that bird's nest crap?! I don't think she even drinks this... She probably just grabbed any random drink and it happened to be that...
