"It might be the same ol thing every day but who am I to complain when it's the best thing you can get here at the cafeteria?" Jack asks himself as he finds himself staring at a bowl of veggie udon. He's about to start eating when someone sits right next to him, and he slowly turns to see who's sitting with him for the day. She has short, dark blue hair secured with a white barrette and brownish-black eyes, and she's brought along a lunchbox.
"Hello there." The girl says. "I'm Kumi."
"I'm Jack." Jack replies as they get acquainted with each other. "What's in there?" His question is quickly answered when Kumi opens the lunchbox and Jack is hit with a very strong spicy smell. Inside is curry bread, a small container of rice and curry, and a variety of hot peppers. Kumi had apparently taken the time to get some milk as Jack looks at the food with surprise. "You must really like spicy food don't you?"
"I actually made this curry." Kumi says. "The curry here isn't spicy enough!"
"Oh." Jack says.
"Wanna try some? That udon you have there looks really bland!" Kumi asks.
"Um... Let me think about it..." Jack replies.
"Oh come on, you're not chicken are you?" Kumi taunts as she takes some of her curry and splashes it on his udon. "You really need some more flavor in your life."
"I do like flavor, it's just that... I'm not a fan of spicy foods." Jack says before looking at his now spiced udon warily. "Well, here goes nothing." Jack mumbles to himself as starts eating. Initially he doesn't feel any spice so he continues eating, and eventually he finishes his bowl. "It's not spicy?"
"Oh I used habanero peppers in that one." Kumi replies. "It'll take a while before the spice actually kicks in."
"Should give me enough time to get some milk." Jack chuckles as he starts to feel the heat coming on. Jack manages to hold off the heat as he gets a small carton of milk and guzzles it down before returning to his spot. By now Kumi has already finished up her rice and curry and is eating some of the hot peppers. "How do you do that?! Do you not have taste buds?!"
"I guess I'm just that resistant to heat." Kumi chuckles. "Want the bread? I realized that the rice and curry has filled me up a good deal."
"Sure..." Jack says. "I hear bread is supposed to help keep down the spice after all..." He then trails off as Kumi hands him the bread.
"I hope you enjoy that." Kumi giggles as she drinks her milk.
"I'm already beginning to regret this... Oh well." Jack says as he eats the bread. Not wanting to deal with the spice he eats the bread fairly quickly, but just like with the curry Kumi dumped on his udon, he doesn't feel any spice yet. "Huh, it's not too... Bad... Oh... Kumi get back..."
"Jack?" Kumi asks worriedly, but she quickly backs away as the contents of Jack's stomach are violently ejected all over the cafeteria floor, much to the horror of everyone watching.
"Too... Spicy..." Jack mumbles before he passes out from the heat.
"Oh my... I didn't think he would react like that!" Kumi says in surprise as Jack is taken to the infirmary.
"You again?" Nurse Kurashiki asks in disbelief as Jack regains his senses. "What happened this time?"
"I... I accidentally gave him something too spicy..." Kumi says. "I may have egged him on..."
"Kumi, not everyone can handle spicy food like you can." Nurse Kurashiki says in a gentle tone. "I would suggest not doing something like that again." And with that Kumi leaves so Nurse Kurashiki can look over Jack. "Well, let's see if everything is going okay..."
Jack's thoughts: She's probably lost her taste buds from eating such spicy foods... I don't know how she can stand stuff like that because I've eaten a jalapeno and my mouth was practically on fire... If there was a contest for who could eat the most hot peppers I know she would win by a landslide.
