DANNY

"Kate I wish you would just come" I exhaled sitting on the edge of the bed rubbing my knuckle into my fist. Today was our yearly work party in celebration of sales and I wanted to do nothing more but celebrate the success with my girlfriend. "Why so I can look at all the pretty females you work with?" Kate scoffed rolling over as I rolled my eyes taking a deep breath rubbing my hands down my face.

"Why do you say stupid shit like that?" I mumbled.
"It's true I'm all fat and have stupid stretch marks" She began ranting as I squeezed my eyes shut with my fingertips. "None of that is true" I answered back. "You're not even remotely big and you just had a kid who cares about stretch marks? I don't" I replied clenching down on my jaw looking down at the floor. "Just wish you'd talk to me" I whispered under my breath. "Well I wish you'd go away" She sniffled as I glared at the floor with my back faced towards her.

This shit was eating me alive and it was sickening to watch my heart couldn't take anymore of it as I tried to remain content as possible and patient.
This wasn't the girl I fell in love with a year ago, I know I'm only twenty-four now and have a lot on my plate right now being young but I never loved like this before.

"I love you Kate" I said getting up taking a deep breath getting nothing in return as I hovered over her attempting to kiss her head as she moved it. "Go away Danny" She said as I clenched down on my jaw rolling my eyes shaking my head as I left the room slamming the door. I needed a drink and tonight was the first time I wanted to try out a sitter for Cayden.
I never liked leaving him with anyone but figured I'd get to spend some quality time with Kate as my dad kept him for me.

At this point I need time to myself in the most non selfish way possible it's been a long month of this bullshit I'm ready to explode.

Work party

"Where's the girlfriend? Or should I say Fiancé?" My coworker Billy jokingly said as I practically choked on my drink raising my eyebrows. "Yeah ah um she wasn't feeling to well so no wedding soon" I joked back raising my beer smirking small as a few coworkers laughed along with him. I truly wasn't in the mood for nutass jokes as I gulped down my beer tossing it out. "Excuse me" I mumbled walking to the open bar getting another.

"Tracy" A female voice said introducing herself putting her hand out as I was caught off guard I glanced at her hand not shaking it then down at my wallet. "You look about twenty" I scoffed shuffling through some money. "What'd my dad hire you?" I mumbled sliding a bill to the bartender putting my wallet back in my pocket. "Keep the change" I said saluting him with my beer raising it. "You're Mr Leyman's son?" She asked as I sipped my beer tapping the bottle cap on the top of the bar counter.

"What's it to you?" I mumbled looking at her then down at my phone. "Nothing just trying to get to know everyone a little better" She exhaled as I nodded not paying her any attention as I blinked down on my phone reading some texts about Cayden. "Excuse me" I exhaled getting up walking away putting my phone to my ear. "You gotta try and lay him on his stomach" I said loudly over people talking as I plugged one ear talking to my step mom about Cayden. "Yeah yeah yeah try that" I said leaning against the wall directing her on what to do.

"Just text me or call back if it doesn't work" I licked my lips listening as I exited the call rubbing my hands down my face. "Baby?" The same girl said as I turned around sliding my hands on my pockets. "A
few weeks old" I yelled over the music leaning close to her ear nodding. "Boy or girl?" She asked smiling as I smiled thinking about Cayden a bit intoxicated.
"Cayden a boy" I responded looking around observing the party.

"I take he's handsome then" She said as I looked at her for a second blinking. "Just a compliment" She cleared her throat awkwardly as I looked away not saying anything. "I take you have a girlfriend then too?" She crossed her arms as I moved my eyebrows down looking at her. "What are you doing a interview or something?" I asked sipping my beer as she laughed hysterically. "What?" I asked raising a brow confused. "Are you always this up tight?" She asked pressing her lips together. "I'm just trying to fit in with everyone I kinda feel like the new kid of the class" She shrugged shyly rubbing up her arm looking around as I studied her body language.
