Nathan’s POV

I was pretty amazed when Soph just pushed open the sky light and crawled out. I went out after her and found that I was on a deck and she was already half way down the spiral staircase at the other side. I closed the window and followed her down the stairs and out to the garage. She pushed a few buttons before the door opened to reveal a slick grey Porsche convertible. Her plate read ‘SAAS 7’. I just stood there drooling over it for a second before getting in the passenger side.

She pulled out and sped down the drive so no one would notice we were leaving. She pulled into the road and drove the same route we took to get to the park. The only difference was that she turned left where we had crossed the main road. She just drove in silence smiling with her arm resting where the window was rolled down. At the first stop light she rolled down my window and hit a button to put the top down. When we started driving she looked at me and smiled before she turned on the radio.

“I still have no idea what you’re doing!” I said just as Toxic came on the radio. “Sing for me. Please!”

“Fine but you have to sing with me.” She said as she kept on smiling. She started singing and I did too.

After a minute we rounded a bend and she stopped singing and pointed. I stopped too and looked forward and saw the rest of the lake. It was massive. This was ridiculous.

“I have something else that I want to show you.” she told me while looking straight ahead.

“Okay.”

After about five minutes of driving by the water she turned onto a road and made a few turns before turning into what looked like horse stables. “Where are we?” I asked as I got out and looked around.

“The hunt club. I board six horses here.” she said as she popped the trunk and pulled out some sweat pants and threw them at me as well as a pair of tennis shoes.

“What are these for?” I wondered out loud.

“I figured you wouldn’t want to get your supras messed up.” she said walking past me and into the barn.

I followed her back to a row of six stalls that each had a shiny brass nameplate on the large sliding door. She pulled me around the corner and pushed open a door telling me I could get changed in there before she took a rope leash and walked out.

I quickly changed and put my stuff in the large trunk that said Sophia Amato ‘7’ on the front. I went out and around the corner to find her with an enormous horse tied to both sides of an open stall. I have to say the horse was quite beautiful if it didn’t look like it could kill me with one good step. It was all black with a small white fleck on it’s forehead.

“Have you ever ridden?” she asked as she walked past me and towards the room that we were just in. She walked in and put some white pants on under her skirt before sliding it off. She unzipped the shiny black boots that were sitting next to the trunk and slid them on over her pants. She stood up and just stared at me waiting for an answer.

“Uhhh, no.” I answered kind of scared.

“Okay. Do you want to ride on your own or with me?”

“I don’t know. What do you think?”

“Well if you feel comfortable enough you can ride Cherry out there who’s a sweet heart, wouldn’t hurt a fly. Or if you don’t want to you can sit behind me.”

“I guess I can try it on my own, but can I go with you if I don’t like it?” I probably sounded like a little kid but whatever.

“Sure.” As she answered she turned around and looked at a wall of what I guess were saddles. She turned back around and stood right next to me so that her leg was pressed against mine. She looked down at my leg for a second before grabbing a saddle off the wall and walking back out to Cherry. She put what looked like a small blanket and a puffy thing on Cherry’s back before putting the saddle on and strapping it around her stomach.

“Why is her name Cherry?” I finally asked when I got curious.

“Ever heard the song ‘Black Horse and the Cherry Tree’?”

“Yeah, I think so.”

“Well the lyrics are ‘A big black horse and a cherry tree’. Her show name is Cherry Tree but everyone just calls her Cherry.”

I just laughed at the reason and she gave me a smirk with a raised eyebrow before she walked back to the stalls and came around the corner with another horse. This one was a creamy colour with grey specks all over. Just like Cherry, it was huge too.

She took it over to another open stall and tied it up just the same before getting a saddle and putting it on it’s back.

“What’s it’s name?” I said walking over to her as she put a jacket on.

“This is Cindy. Her full name is Cinderella, but it’s easier to call her Cindy.” She said as she got up and unhooked both of them. She had one in each hand and lead them outside where it was getting darker. “Here stand on those steps over there.” she said while pointing to some steps.

I got up and she pulled Cherry up in front. “Okay put your right foot in the stirrup and swing your other leg over.”

“Okay.” I did as I was told and once I was up, Soph adjusted the length.

“Alright squeeze her gently with your heels and she’ll walk forward.” I listened and Cherry started walking forward. I smiled proud of myself and was able to learn the ropes pretty fast.

I moved Cherry out of the way so Soph could get on Cindy. But when I turned my head she was already up and next to me. “Ready?” she asked before leaning over and kissing me on the cheek.
