Lu Mei sat down amongst the grass, listening to the sounds around her. Suddenly, she saw vivid figures of animals scattering away from her. She took no notice until a sudden burst of heat broke out in her chest and pain seared her, consuming every part of her. She tried to scream but all that came out was a screech. She stared at her hands and felt herself shifting, to a huge bird with golden feathers. She flapped her wings and felt herself lifting from the ground and headed to the sky. Soaring high in the air, the wind halted as dark, thundering clouds boomed around her. Lightning broke out and one stray bolt struck her, causing her to fall. Before she woke up, she could hear a voice speaking to her: One girl hailing from the dark shall shine and unite a broken land with the help of those closest to her heart.
Lu Mei sat up in bed, gasping and shuddering. She clutched her sides and took a few breaths before looking down from the bed, where Xue stared up at her and growled as it shook the dust off.
