Shooting His Shot

"Everyone is in?" I looked back and saw Iris and her friend and I nodded to Noah. The car ride was nice. Quiet and not awkward. We finally pulled up and the aquarium looked bigger. Noah paid for me and him, while Iris paid for her and her friend,

"Okay, you two go off together me and Noah are gonna go together. Meet back in the front at 5?" I look at Noah and he nods. "It's 2:07 so that's plenty of time. Now begone." They nodded and walked away.

"So what's first?" I thought for a second.

"How about the otters?"

"Otters? Why?"

"They remind me of you. Adorable, friendly, they're like sea puppies and they let their babies sleep on their stomachs. It's so cute."

"Okay otters here we come." We made our way to the otters and there were 3 of them plus 2 little babies. One was sleeping on it's mom stomach in the water. The other was eating some fish.

"This is the cutest thing ever." I feel like a kid. Being this big and looking at this and wanting to steal one.

"Yeah it sure is." I look at Noah and it doesn't even seem like he was looking at the otters.

"You're not even looking at them. Come on." I pulled him up and pointed to the little otter baby sleeping. After completely fangirling over them we moved to the sea lions. They had a little show that was about to start so we stayed. When the show started the sea lions were doing all types of tricks. Flips, jumps, fetching toys, and waving. It was so cute.

"Noah wasn't that amazing."

"Yeah but I know something more amazing."

"What?" Bing bing. The intercom came on.

"The dolphin show will in the next 10 minutes."

'YES, DOLPHINS.' "Hold that thought Noah." I grabbed Noah's hand and pulled him towards the dolphin exhibit. We got seats in the front row and Iris and her friend were a few seats down.

"The dolphin show will now begin." Next thing 3 dolphins jumped into the air. It was very majestic. The dolphins played games with the trainers and with each other. Races and all. It was adorable.

The show ended and we still had an hour and 28 minutes.

"What do you want to see now?"

"Let's go look in the tunnel. The tunnel has a walk way with lots fish swimming all around you. You can see everything."

"That sounds good. Let's go." I linked my arm with Noah's and we continued on our way. Good thing there weren't many people there. We walked through slowly and stopped a lot so I could see everything. There even was a diver dressed like a mermaid swimming around. She looked beautiful.

"That's so cool and she's beautiful." I looked at Noah and he nodded.

"Yeah but you're more beautiful."

"More beautiful. Perfect grammar." I giggled. The rest of the time was nice. We ate from the cafe there. So pizza. When it was close to time to go we started to walk to the front. When we got there Iris and her friend were there on their phones.

"Good. You two here, let's go." We walked to the car and drove home.

"Thank you for today." I said as he parked his car. Iris and her friend got out and went inside.

"Can I talk to you?"

"Yeah, what's up?

"I can't hang out as much as we did before?"

"Why?" I'm so confused.

"You're with him and it's like I'm getting my hopes up. I just wanna distance myself from you, till my feelings die down."

"So you wanna leave me?" I felt my heart shatter. I'm gonna lose my best friend. Over some boy?

"It's just for a few days." This can't be happening. "Nothing about us gonna change, i'll still check on you. We just won't be able to hang out or whenever you wanna call me up."

"I don't want you to go."

"Well this time it's not what you want. It's what I want to do and I'm gonna do it."

"Me dating him isn't going to cause a problem between us. We can still be the same."

"Can I get what I want? Damn. It's gonna cause a problem. That's why I'm going to leave and come back so there won't be one. Now can you go inside, I just wanted to tell you before You get worried on why I'm going to respond like how I do." It felt like he ripped out my heart and crushed it.

"You really want me to leave? You're really gonna leave me?"

"Yes and yes." What happened?

"What happened to the Noah I know?"

"He's tired of trying to get something he can't have. Now can you please go inside otherwise i'll drive home and you'll walk back." He's never talked to me like this. I started to cry a little but I wiped my tears.

"Okay, I'll go then."

"Much appreciated." I slowly got out the car. When I closed the door he zoomed out the driveway and was gone. I stood there looking and just cried.

'I lost my best friend because of my decision.' I don't wanna go inside like this but then I don't wanna stay out here. I go inside and mom's not home. 'Thank god.' I go up to my room and just sit there. I'm between still accepting it and thinking it wasn't real.

'Do I just need to never talk? Not think? Would this be better if I just disappeared?' All the thoughts buried inside me came afloat. I need to sleep before this gets worse cause it will. Maybe this will help at least.
