Tragedy and The Unlikely Hero

As the years went by it became apparent that Livior had much more magical ability than any normal forest elf or human. He seemed to be able to do things instinctively that most magic users had to concentrate on and use spells to accomplish. Five years had now passed and Livior was now five and a half years old. He still did not have any friends because people despised his mixed blood. He was a very lonely little boy but was happy he at least had his mother and father who loved him very much. Liviors eyes were still as golden as ever and his hair still as silver as the day he was born only now it hung down over his shoulders.

Meauv and Kent knew Livior had inherited both of their magical gifts as well as many more. They saw him heal a cut on his own hand just by looking at it, he brought a dead bug back to life kind of and had it march around like a soldier, put out the hearth fire and restart it just to amuse himself or freeze the flames in ice and make plants grow into strange unexpected shapes. He was truly a gifted sorcerer and at only five years old they knew at some point they would have to go visit the first born.

Meauv baked a cake in the shape of his favorite animal, a wolf. As they were eating the cake there was a loud noise off in the distance. Kent grabbed his staff and told Meauv to hide while he ran out the door to see what the commotion was. A minute later he ran back in and closed the door. He told Meauv to get her cloak and dress Livior warmly and to hurry but be as quite as she could. Kent dowsed the fire and dimmed the lanters then grabbed the ring he made for Livior and pulled off a necklace Meauv made him out of vines he always wore off his neck and slid the ring onto the necklace. He put the necklace with the ring on Livior tying it so it would not fall off or strangle him and Meauv used a spell to cause some vines to secure the necklace so it would not fall off either. Meauv said frantically "What has you so afraid?"

Kent looked as white as a ghost and said "There are hundreds if not thousands of orcs out there heading this way. You have to leave now run and hide with Livior. I will try to delay and misdirect them to give you the time you need to escape."

Meauv started crying pleading "Please just come with us we can hide together!"

Kent said "Without a distraction none of us are going to make it. I have to do this for you and for our son. I love you both with all my heart and if nothing else I can do this for you and give you a chance."

He looked at Livior and said "Always remember to be a good man and use your gifts for the benefit of all not just yourself. I will always be watching over you from the other side. Know that I will always be proud of you no matter what and you my love keep our son safe and be sure he knows right from wrong and try to find love again someday because your happiness and safety and Liviors is all that matters to me. Goodbye my son, goodbye my beloved." With that he ran out the door hit three orcs over the head with his staff and ran as fast as he could away from the house being chased by fifty orcs.

Livior started crying as was Meauv but she knew she had to quiet him before she made her escape. She sang softly to him stifling her own sobs of grief long enough to calm Livior. She then wrapped her cloak around both of them and snuck out the door and off to the side of the house and ran into the forest away from the commotion of the orc army. Just them she heard the most horrible sound imaginable to her...Kents scream, a scream that could mean only one thing, he was now dead. Her husband and the father to her son had just died to give them a chance to get away and she was going to do whatever it took to make sure their son was safe and grew up.

Livior started crying so loudly she knew they would hear so she ran as fast as she could in the opposite direction using her magic to make vines grow in her wake to slow anyone who might be following them.
