The Chase Begins
Livior looked back toward the Sercey Mountains when he heard horns sounding from that direction and saw smoke signals billowing from the mountains. Apparently the dwarves had already received the message and were responding rapidly. As they topped a hill Livior looked back and could see people streaming into the castle they left only hours earlier from the surrounding villages and countryside. He knew they were preparing for a battle to end all battles. He also saw carrier pigeons flying from the direction of Cereba and entering the towers of the castle. His enhanced elven senses were sure coming in handy today he thought. The pigeons must be acknowledging their requests for aid and the distraction Livior assumed. Livior kept thinking to himself that so many people were about to die and all because of him. Tears streamed down his face as he thought about the people who would soon be dead for nothing more than an orphan who could use magic.
Vahlt saw his face and said "They will be ok, don't worry.
Livior said "If I had held my hood more tightly they would not be about to die."
Shriv said "The gods decided it was time for your presence to be known; you could not have stopped it."
With only a half mile to go until they reached Troyth eight hooded figures ran out of the trees along their path. Immediately they all drew their bows and began firing but the hooded figures were too fast Livior thought because the arrows seemed to go right past them. Finally they threw down their bows and all drew their swords and prepared for the assault. Three of them jumped on Shriv and three on Genia. Livior didn't realize that three more had crept up on Vahlt and had him busy. The final two were about to reach Livior when he heard Genia scream just as his mother had years ago. He saw her falling to the ground and one of the hooded figures about to strike a death blow and the power within him erupted like a volcano knocking everyone to their knees. At this point he was seeing red and nothing mattered but completely and utterly obliterating these hooded figures. He incinerated the ones nearest his mother and with a glance the ones attacking Vahlt suddenly jerked and all he could hear was every bone in their bodies snapping like twigs and they lie motionless. He was still walking steadily toward his mother when all five of the remaining hooded figures charged him. When they got a few feet away it was like they hit a brick wall and were lifted off the ground. Shriv and Vahlt just stood dumbstruck by what they were seeing. They knew Livior was powerful but had no idea he was this powerful. Suddenly Liviors swords, Genias sword, Vahlts and Shrivs swords all jerks out of their owners hands and each shot straight through the chests of one of the five hooded figures. They fell to the ground lifelessly. Finally Livior reached Genia and placed his hands over her wound and his hands glowed so bright it was like a lighthouse beacon in the overnight hours. Genias wounds were closing before his very eyes. As Genia began to stir healed, Livior slumped over and everything went black.
Livior awoke a short while later being carried over his fathers shoulder with his mother and Vahlt walking on either side of them. Livior did not feel like he could speak yet but patted his dad on the back to let him know he was awake. Shriv stopped and lowered Livior to his feet but his knees gave away and he started to collapse. Before he fell to the ground Vahlt had lunged forward and caught him. Livior could tell by the look of his father that he was tired and needed a rest but would refuse to stop until they reached Troyth. He spoke mentally to Vahlt and asked him to help him walk so his father could rest. Vahlt just hoisted Livior onto his own shoulder and continued walking. Livior managed a weak laugh and regained his voice saying "I can walk somewhat you know."
Vahlt said with what Livior knew was a smirk on his face even though he could not see it "We can't afford to walk like an old woman on her death bed."
Everyone laughed at that even Livior. By the time they reached Troyth they decided to eat before continuing. When it was time to set the fire Livior started to get up and Vahlt pushed him right back down on his backside saying "And where do you think you're going young man?" in a smug fatherly tone.
