Sara's POV
I don't know what is is about Ava but I feel like we were meant to be friends. In the very short time I've been around her it's just feels right. I feel like I've known her forever, even though I just got to know her. Even the awkward moments around her seem homey. I knew she wasn't going to do anything before school starts so I decided to take her to where Zari, Charlie, Jax, Ray, Nora, Nate and I normally hang out in our free time at school. Jax, Ray and Nate haven't been coming recently though because of spring ball and Nora is a grade ahead of us so she comes when she can but she's prepping for college and that keeps her busy. So it's basically just been me and the two lovebirds and not that there's a problem with that but you can never have too many people in your circle.
Charlie and I found the "hideout" when I first came here. It's an old abandoned shed type thing just off of campus. We used to smoke there but once Zari joined our little group Charlie stopped because Zari hates the smell of weed. Getting high alone is boring so I only do it at parties now. Me and my whole friend group carved our names into the inside of the door with a key. We called it the Backhouse for absolutely no reason, better than calling it an abandoned shed thingy. Nate brought a couch his mom was going to throw out and Jax brought folding chairs and a fold out table. I don't know about everyone else but the Backhouse was a place for me to just get away from the world and kick it with my friends.
It takes a little less than 10 minutes to walk to the Backhouse but Ava's legs are long so if I pick up my pace we can get there sooner. We had passed the bleachers where I guess Ava thought we were going so she spoke.
"Sara if you made me walk all the way out here just so you could kill me I'm gonna be so mad at you."
"Dead people don't have feelings Aves." I said as I walked/climbed up the hill carefully making sure to step on safe places so the dirt doesn't slip and I fall from under me.
"I'm not an outdoors person, and if I was I definitely wouldn't be hiking." I looked back at her and she was using a tree to pull herself up the steepest part.
There's another way to get to the Backhouse but we would've had to go back out the front of the school an all the way around. I'll tell her that later though so she doesn't think about turning back right now.
"How'd you even find this place?" She asked me making it to the top of the hill onto flat group.
She takes a deal breath and looks back down.
"Don't worry. It's harder going down." She looks at me unentertained and walks down the path next to me.
"When I moved here in September Charlie and I got caught smoking under the bleachers by the football coach. It was foggy though so he didn't see our faces but he chased us. So we ran up here and through this woodsy area and boom. We found the Backhouse and hid in there for at least 4 periods just in case he was still there. We ended up walking through the rest of the woods all the way around the school and back through the front." I looked at Ava and she was analyzing ever part of my story.
"So there's another way less hard way to get there?" That was the question I was expecting.
"I mean yeah if you want to waste 20 minutes. You would've missed home room."
"So just you and Charlie smoke there?"
"No it's Zari, Jax, Ray, Nora, and Nate too. But we don't smoke there anymore. Zari hates the smell of it and if the boys got caught they'd get suspended or something so no more smoking there." Her phone dinged and she pulled it out to check who it was.
