lasting for a short time

we sat outside of the school. the gang. cameron boyce, karan brar, sophie reynolds, bradley perry, and a few others sat outside on the step of our now old high school. we had just graduated, and it was extremely bittersweet.

i can still remember all of those classes that cameron and i ditched to go play basketball in the gym, where the teachers never looked. i can remember when sophie started her period freshman year and we freaked out because the boys stole her locker room bag. i still see bradley and i sneaking into school after hours to find his phone. i look over to karan, which reminds me of the time when we put some of the chairs for the classrooms on the roof. yeah, we were assholes, but we were everyone's favorites.

i leaned my head on karan, and he put his head on mine. sophie grabbed my hand, cameron sat on the step below me, leaning on my knees. bradley sat next to soph where he put his head in her lap.

"i can't believe this is really over," i say, looking at karan. "me either," he mumbled, "it's like it was just yesterday that we found out we had the same classes for first semester, freshman year," he says. sophie snuffles, "or like the first homecoming football game we went to as the disney crew," i smiled at her, "yeah, but you know what?" i say, "what?" they all reply, this isn't over," i say, "we're best friends, and we've been best friends for the last four years, and not because we worked at the same place," i say, "cameron, i met you when i couldn't handle the thought of going to high school while working on disney, or being in school at all, and you got me out of that hole," he looks up at me and squeezes my knee. "bradley," i say, "we met when you needed help with algebra. and i was more than happy to help you," i smile and he grins, "sophie i've known you since we were in diapers," and we all laughed, "you two are out of diapers?" cameron chuckles, and sophie smacks his head, "watch it kid," she laughs, "karan, i first realized what good friends we were going to be when we snuck out of science class to go to the zoo for the day," i laughed, "and it was the funniest thing when you got your face painted," karan kissed the top of my cap and snuggled me closer. "yeah, but y/n," sophie says, "those are all in the past,"

"no they're not," i say, "if we stay together, build our lives together, work together and make this work, it's like the memories won't ever stop," they all nodded, "so right here, right now, i want to make a pact." cameron says, "we make things work. we stay involved with each other," he says, "does everyone agree?" we all nodded and put our hands in the middle. "i love you guys," karan says, and we all exchange a few hugs and tears, but eventually leave school.

a year  later

karan got a role in a new movie! i'm so proud of him and happy, sophie's working on her modeling, cameron's running a campaign for a charity that he's passionate about, and bradley's doing what bradley's doing. i was now in a relationship, with the one and only jace norman.

jace and i worked so so well together, we had only been dating for six months but he just seemed different, i don't know how, and i can't put my finger on it, but he's got something, and it's great.

we haven't told anyone yet, but with how rough the community had been lately, i was kind of scared to. only sophie knew. i hadn't told the rest of my disney crew yet, and for good reason. they wouldn't understand.
