To say that (y/n) likes the notorious Sirius Black would be an understatement. She's particularly fond of the black-haired Gryffindor and she never fails to show it in any way.
"Hey Sirius!"
"Hello Sirius, good luck on your exam!"
"Hi Remus, where's Sirius?"
"Sirius, what are you doing later?"
"Good luck on the match, Sirius!"
"You're looking exceptional today, Sirius, not that you don't on any other day."
Well, the list could go on forever. That's entirely the reason why Sirius Black is completely annoyed by (y/n). Usually, he's flattered by this because he loves the attention he is getting from girls but (y/n) is another level of obsessed as he would like to consider it. He would gather his will power to try and avoid (y/n) as much as possible which is kind of hard as (y/n) seems to know where he is at any time of the day. It's like she has a Marauders' Map of her own. When he spots her near, he would go the other way, stare straight ahead or talk to his friends about anything just to evade her.
To all this, though, (y/n) is oblivious. She does not notice how Sirius would cringe or look annoyed whenever she would call him and try to talk to him. Her friends would never tell her because they could see that (y/n) treats Sirius Black as if he is her Prince Charming and soulmate and there is no one else out there for her but him. Little did she know that first love tend to hurt more than they should.
"Hey Sirius, Sirius! Here!" (y/n) yells one afternoon at a hallway full of students rushing to their own common rooms. She baked cauldron cakes for him last night, which is why she had only a few hours of sleep but of course, she didn't mind. She runs to where Sirius and the rest of the Marauders are, the former trying to leave as soon as he heard her voice. But he wasn't able to as (y/n) catches up with them as soon as he plans to take another step away. With a deep sigh, he faces her, his face void of emotions.
"I just want to gi –"
"Look (y/n). Don't you get it?" (Y/n) tilts her head to the side, looking up at him, confused.
Padfoot continues.
"I don't like you, okay? I really don't. So would you kindly please, please just leave me alone and stop bothering me."
Oh. Oh.
(Y/n) doesn't know how to feel. Her hopes for the two of them are too high that when he asked her to leave and stay away, she fell down hard. She knows deep inside that Sirius' feelings are not mutual but finally discovering that he hates it – he hates her – hurts like no other. Why does it hurt so much?
As a child, (y/n)'s mum always told her to pursue the things she wants, no matter what or who hinders her from doing so. That's what she did for most of her dreams. Sadly, her mother failed to mention that not everything or everyone can be pursued and she had to learn it the hard way.
Trying hard not to cry, she takes deep breaths, ignores everyone looking at them – at her – and turns away. She can't look at him, not right now and perhaps, not for a long time, so she goes straight to the Ravenclaw common room. Along the way, she throws the cakes she baked on a bin. Locking herself in their dormitories, she finally surrenders to tears until she fell asleep. Well, there goes her first love.
For days after that, she tries to minimize social interaction as much as she can. That day when Sirius left her heartbroken, she wasn't only rejected, she was also embarrassed. He really had to do it in front of an audience, had he? Now, people look at her either with pity or just pure mockery for being rejected like that. Girls who also like Sirius laugh at her or whisper behind her back. But that really does not mean she couldn't hear them.
