I walked down the stairs slowly. I saw my mom and miss Lovato standing in the hallway, shaking hands.
"Hi, I'm Dana Johnson. It's nice to meet you" mom said.
"Nice to meet you, too. I'm Demetria Lovato, but I go by Demi. And this is my daughter, Sierra" she said. Sierra waved.
"Hi there, sweetie. I have a little girl just like you" mom said, as she led them to the living room.
I came into the living room, too."Hi dad" I said, as I walked over to him and gave him a hug, completely ignoring my teacher's presence.
"Hey honey. How was your day?" he asked.
"Good" I said.
"How was school?"
"Also" I said, avoiding to look at my teacher.
"That's great" he said.
"Where's Sophia?" mom asked.
"Upstairs" I said.
"Samantha honey. Will you please call your sister down?" dad asked. I walked to the stairs, but didn't go up.
"Princess, come down for dinner" I yelled.
"Coming" she yelled back.
She came running down the stairs and into the living room. As soon as she saw Sierra, a huge smile came across her face."Mommy, this my friend I talked about!" she said excited.
"I know, honey" mom said and smiled at her.
"Sam, please come and help me in the kitchen" she said. I walked to the kitchen with her. I still hadn't said anything, or even looked at miss Lovato.
"I can't believe you actually invited her" I said.
"Why not? Sierra and Sophia can be great friends"
"She's my teacher, mom. It's embarrassing and weird"
"You're gonna have to get used to it, darling"
"What do you mean? She's gonna come more often?"
"Of course!" mom said.
"You know, at times like this I wish I was still an only child" I said.
"Oh come on, you love Sophia" mom smiled.
"I do. I really do, but I really don't like her friend's mother to be in my house"
"It's ok. You'll get to know her as a person, not as your teacher"
"Whatever. I'm just really uncomfortable right now" I said.
"It'll be okay. Just be polite. And it might be nice to at least say something to her. You've ignored her presence totally, and that's not something I or dad approve of" mom said.
"I know. It's just weird"
"I know it is, but you can at least say hi or something"
I walked back into the living room with mom. Miss Lovato looked at me and smiled. I flashed her a tiny smile and looked away. I really hated moments like these.
We all sat down at the table and started eating."So, you're new here?" dad asked miss Lovato.
"Yeah, we moved here two weeks ago" she said.
"What made you come here?" dad asked.
"I wanted something new, something different from what I'm used to. Also, it's not to far from the school and I'm a teacher. And it's good for Sierra, since there are a lot of kids here and she can make friends" she said.
They continued talking, but I zoned out, as usual.
After dinner dad had to leave again. I helped mom clear up everything. Soph and Sierra went upstairs to play and mom talked with miss Lovato. I decided to listen to their conversation. I stood in the hallway, so they wouldn't see me and listened. Of course, they were talking about me.-----
