The sun's already up, but still no signs of Diana in the living room nor in the kitchen area. Franki didn't know what to do. Kiara left early as she said she needs to finish a few things in the restaurant before taking some time off. She just left a note for Diana and asked favor to Franki to make sure that she eats before leaving.
They had a brief talk earlier while they were eating breakfast and Kiara kept on apologizing about what happened the other night while explaining why Diana was so drunk. It was no big deal for Franki to be honest. Although, there's one thing about what Kiara said that caught her attention. She said Diana has a girlfriend. Franki had to confirm it as she wasn't sure if she heard it right. She couldn't believe it at first as she thinks Diana looks so pretty to be gay. Or, maybe she was just stereotyping. She was amused by that fact, but there was no judgement about Diana's choices. If there's one thing she learned as she grows older, it's respecting other people's choices for as long as they're not stepping on someone's toes.
Franki thought of how hard it must have been for Diana to go through something like this. She herself went through hell because of her breakup with David. She just find it somewhat funny that Kiara's home seemed to have become a refuge for broken hearted people like her and Diana.
Franki decided to give Diana a little more time to sleep so she kept her self busy watching tagalog lessons in YouTube while waiting for her to be awake.
Suddenly, her phone rang and she saw her Mom calling.
"Hello? Mom?", she said as she answered her phone.
"How are you darling?"
"I'm fine. How are you? I missed you!"
"Oh, I missed you too honey! I hope I am not disturbing you."
"Oh no, not at all! I'm just watching Tagalog lessons in Youtube. Can you believe it?", she said laughing.
Her mom giggled. "Really? So how's your Tagalog lesson doing so far?"
"Sowbrang mahirup!" she answered in her distinct Tagalog accent.
Her Mom laughed. "Kaya mo yan!"
"Oo naman! Kaya ko tow!", she said with full conviction.
"By the way, have you tried balut already?", her mom asked.
"No, I haven't! Nah, I don't think I'm gonna try it ever mom.", she couldn't imagine herself eating a duck embryo, but her mom really loves it.
"Oh, you should try it, Honey! It's very good! Your trip to the Philippines wouldn't be complete without trying it."
"Okay, okay. I'll see what I can do. But, I cannot promise though.", she laughed at how enthusiastic her mom in convincing her.
"Glad to hear you laughing now, Frances. I haven't heard you laugh in a long time." she heard her Mom said. Her tone suddenly went serious.
"Aww. Thank you so much, Mom."
"Seems like going there was the right choice after all?"
She paused for a little before she answered. "Hmm, I think so too, Mom. I just arrived, but I'm already loving it here. Thank you so much for convincing me to go."
"Anything for you sweetheart! Your happiness is my happiness. By the way, I need to go now. I just called to check up on you. You take care of your self, okay? Call me if you need anything."
"Will do, mom! You too! I love you!"
"I love you too baby. Bye!"
She was just so happy to hear her mom's voice. How comforting. It's always good to know that there are people who care about you and your happiness. Her mom's the best.
She continued watching Youtube after the call but an hour had passed and Diana's still not coming out of the room. It's already 9:00 am and that woman haven't eaten anything since last night. She was having second thoughts as to whether she will wake her up or not, but in the end, she chose to just go to Kiara's room to check up on Diana.
When she got there, the room was gloaming because of the blinds preventing all the lights from coming in. She saw Diana who's still in bed sleeping soundly - it's as if sleeping is the only way to stop her self from feeling all the pain. Franki knows, she had been there.
She sat at the edge of the bed thinking how she would wake her up.
"Dayanuh..", she finally said while tapping on Diana's shoulder. Funny that she's calling her by name as if they've known each other for a long time.
There was no response from Diana.
"Dayanuh..", she repeated in a very soft voice. Diana made a sound this time. She muttered something but Franki didn't hear it clearly. Diana then stretched her arms and grabbed her pulling her closer. Franki panicked! She didn't see that coming. The next thing she knew, she was already in bed lying next to her. Her face was right in front of Diana's that she can almost smell the liquor in her breath.
"I love you so much!", Diana said in a husky voice. Her eyes were still closed. Franki's heart was beating faster. Uh oh! What have she gotten into? Diana was hugging her tight that she could not move. She tried to get out, but Diana won't let her go. Suddenly, she noticed the tears falling from Diana's eyes.
"Please don't leave me.", she begged looking so helpless.
Franki's heart melted and decided to just let things be. She hugged Diana back and whispered, "Shhh... I am not leaving.". She's not sure what urged her to do it. She felt exactly the same when she voluntered to take care of her the other night. Diana pulled her even closer that she could almost hear her heart beat, then she pressed her lips against hers very softly. Franki was shocked and her entire body shivered. Ahhh! She couldn't think straight and it felt like her brain had frozen. She lost herself in that kiss for a moment.
Diana's kiss was soft, it wasn't owning. It was full of love. She felt the sincerity of it. Diana snuggled to her like a baby after that.
Franki knew Diana was half asleep and didn't know what she was doing. She had mistakenly thought of her as her girlfriend, that's for sure.
