A/N: Story time: I had a dog named Holly for like a year or two. Then my brothers wanted another dog, so we applied for one from an organization. We thought we didn't get the dog because they didn't respond, so we went out and got a different dog. Her name's Izzy. Then, like two days later, we got an email saying we got approved for the dog we wanted first, so we got her too. Her name's Sadie. Now, we have three dogs, and I still don't own Marvel.

Peter walked into the place that had been his second home since he was 15. He was 20 now, and still working for Tony as a personal intern. He loved his job, even if Tony sometimes forgot that he was an adult, now.
"Hey, kid." Tony greeted Peter as he entered the lab.
Peter just let out a long-suffering sigh. "Mr. Stark, if I call you Tony will you acknowledge that I'm an adult and have been for the past two years?"
Tony grinned. "Nope."
"Fine, Mr. Stark it is." Peter draped his jacket over the back of a chair and sat down next to Tony. "So, What do we have?"
Tony pointed towards the mess of wires on the table. It looked like it was meant to be a gauntlet from the Ironman suit, but it was so disassembled that it was impossible to recognize. "That. I need to put it back together, but I forgot what it was."
Peter dramatically rolled his eyes at his mentor, earning him a light smack to the head. "Okay, I'll work on it."
A few hours of work later, and Peter had reassembled the wires to form the only thing he could. A toaster.
Tony peeked over his shoulder. "Figure our what it is yet?"
Peter shifted aside to let him look. "Mr. Stark, in the future, go to sleep before you disassembled toasters in your lab."
"Sleep is for the weak, kid." Tony rolled his chair away. A few minutes later, Peter pushed his chair back and said goodbye.
"I still don't understand why you don't stay anymore." Tony pouted exaggeratedly, crossing his arms over his chest and looking up at Peter.
Peter ignored him, and picked up his jacket. "I have to get back to campus for college. You live too far out to get to classes from here."
Tony reluctantly let his kid go, and then spent the rest of the night in his lab. After all, sleep is for the weak.

A week later, Peter walked into the lab and set down his stuff as usual. He was confused by the sound of laughter he could hear from Tony's desk, so he went to investigate.
"Mr. Stark?"
Tony turned around, chuckling slightly. His eyes widened when he saw his intern.
"Oh. Peter." Tony sent an awkward smile his way. "This is Max."
He stepped out of the way so Peter could see the young boy behind him. Peter waved and smiled confusedly. "Hi, Max!"
Tony shifted uncomfortably on his feet. "So, I kind of forgot you were coming today, and I want to work with Max. So...could you...ya know?" Tony accompanied the question with a flick of his wrist towards the door.
"Oh." Peter bit his lip to hide his tears. "Yeah. I'll just come back later, then."
Peter picked up his stuff and left, hoping he imagined Tony muttering, "please don't."

Peter came back anyways. Day after day, week after week, month after month, he came back. And every time, Tony would wave him away so he could hang out with Max.
