Chapter 27: Under the Pledging Tree

A hum left Cayla's throat as she waited for Serena to sign up for the contest, seeing as Cayla had signed up immediately her side was already taken care of. Dawn nuzzled her cheek against her trainer's face as Ro danced along to the humming. "Oh." Cayla halted, looking down at the magazine she was reading. "Hey guys, come check this out!" She perked, waving over the group.

"What is it Cayla?" Ash asked, coming up to lean over her shoulder and see what she was reading.

"Theres a festival tonight!" She beamed, reading the page. "'Tonight is the long awaited festival that Coumarine City citizens wait for with baited breath! Today trainers of all kinds will be placing presents for their Pokemon under the Pledging Tree(see page 34 for details), where later tonight their Pokemon will open them, and make the bond between trainer and Pokemon ever deeper.'" Cayla flipped to page 34. "'It is said that long ago and trainer and their Pokemon went on a long journey. When their journey came to an end they settled down in Coumarine City. The trainer presented a tree sapling to their partner as a gift, to simulate their every growing bond. In respect to their Pokemon, the trainers of Coumarine City set out to build a festival one day a year. The trainers wrap presents and leave them under the tree, and the Pokemon will open their present that night. It's said that if a trainer presents their present under the tree, their bond with their Pokemon will reach new heights then ever imagined.'"

"Wow, Thats so cool!" Bonnie gushed. "I wanna give a Present to Dedenne!"

"I'm definitely getting something for you two." Cayla smiled at her partners, making a mental note to send something similar to all her other Pokemon. "Theres a nice shopping district near here." The dark haired girl informed, standing up.

"I'll go with you." Ash offered, setting Pikachu down. "You stay here and wait for me, okay buddy?" He asked.

"Pika! Pikachu!" 'Alright! No problem!' Pikachu beamed.

"I'll stay behind with Bonnie and the Pokemon." Clemont offered, a creative glint in his eyes.

"Dawn, Ro you stay too." Cayla said softly, getting weary nods in understanding while Ash let out the rest of his Pokemon.

"You too Fennekin, Pancham. We'll be back soon." Serena included.

Cayla's pale face lit up. "I've always wanted to shop with you Serena! So such cute clothes so I've been hoping we could shop together!" She beamed, silver eyes lighting up like Christmas tinsel at the idea of spending time with her friends.

Cayla didn't usually like spending a whole lot on her self despite loving shopping(really though it was more of she liked walking around shops, and just getting away from stress rather than really buying things in general), which was why she loved things such as birthdays, and Christmas and now she had a new holiday type thing to shop for. Plus, she was catching two Starly with one Poke-Ball if she and Serena became friends because of this.

Serena forced a smile. "Yeah this...this should be fun!" The honey haired girl's voice dripped with fake happiness, but with Cayla in her happy dappy daze, she didn't notice. 'Great. I was going to use this whole thing to try and get a date with Ash, but no! She has to come along! And who does she think she's fooling? Yeah right like she wants to be friends. I can't wait to wipe the stage with her tomorrow!'

"So do you guys know what you're wanting to get your Pokemon?" Cayla asked obliviously, mindlessly braiding her long hair as she walked backwards, facing them.

"Not a clue." Ash said, sheepishly looking away.

"I have a general idea." Serena caved, voice sickly sweet.
