CLAPS AND CHEERS echoed throughout the boardwalk, the fireworks show coming to a finish. Gray smoke left to linger amongst the stars, the sea becoming dark once again. I leaned off the railing, smiling to myself. The sight was truly breathtaking. I turned around, seeing everyone leaving the boardwalk.
Families left, large satisfied smiles plastered on their faces. Some stayed on the boardwalk, making the most of the beautiful weather. After hearing my name, I realized that we were leaving as well. I caught up with Jungkook as we all left the carnival. We made it back to the entrance gate, biding our goodbyes to everyone.
Jieun walked up to me, engulfing me in a large hug, "I'll see you tomorrow, yeah?"
I nodded, wrapping my arms around her torso, returning her embrace. She placed her head on my shoulder, her voice low, "I'm really sorry about Taehyung. Are you sure you don't want Jimin and I to drop you home?"
My face fell as I released her hug, staring at her, "It's okay, he said he wanted to tell me something, so I might as well find out what it is."
"Alright. Let me know what happens," She sighed, holding her hands in mine.
I nodded, watching her let go of my hands. She smiled before running over to Jimin, who stood to wait for her. They both waved before walking down the sidewalk. I returned the wave, my hand slowly dropping once they were out of view. I stood by the entrance gate, waiting for Taehyung.
After a while everyone left, leaving Taehyung, Miyeon and I alone. I stood beside Taehyung, listening to their conversation. I kept my eyes on everywhere except them, sadness pouring into my heart. I couldn't shake off what Taehyung wanted to tell me. I was scared of what he was going to say, whether it was something good or bad.
I watched as a car pulled up to the entrance, honking its horn at us. Miyeon beamed at the car, biding us both goodbye before entering the front seat. We watched as the car drove off, leaving us alone. Taehyung turned to me, a smile on his face, "Ready?"
I nodded, walking beside him. I avoided contact with him, looking at him would hurt even more. While walking, we made small conversation. We talked about the carnival, school, and other small topics. Even though I was well aware of my one-sided love, being with him managed to lift some of my spirits. I felt calm around him, free to shed my shy exterior.
People walked about, utilizing the beautiful weather. Couples and families walked by, strolling around the town. Restaurants flourished as a result - many of them staying open till late hours to satisfy the public. The sky was painted ebony black, a few stars flashing every once in a while. Complimenting the darkness was the full moon, irradiating the town.
After a while of walking, we eventually reached my house. I turned towards him, curious whether he was going to tell me what he was eager to share with me. I stared at him expectantly, to which he chuckled nervously in response. He was trying to avoid the subject, talking about everything else except what he wanted to tell me. I knew what he was doing, it was classic for Taehyung to dismiss whatever was weighing on his mind. It was something he always did when he was too anxious to admit how he was feeling.
