"FIVE MINUTES LEFT before we go onto the field!"
I placed my foot on the bench, bending over my knee to tie my shoelaces. I twisted the laces, making a tight knot. I alternated legs, doing the same for the other side. A pair of footsteps approached me, the person appearing around the corner. The person entered the section in the locker room that I was getting ready in. I looked up at the person, Jieun's wide smile in full view. She was already dressed in her uniform, adjusting the buttons on her top.
"Are you ready?" She asked, bending her arm behind her head. She pushed down on her elbow, doing some quick stretches beforehand.
I nodded, tightening the knot on my shoes. I stood up, walking over to the large mirror on the wall. I pulled the scrunchie off my wrist, tying my hair back into a slick ponytail. Jieun watched my movements through the reflection of the mirror, "I can't believe we're halfway through the season."
I turned around to face her, "I know. It feels like we only started yesterday."
Softball season started a couple of weeks ago, and we've already started off strong. Our streak so far has been 6-1, which meant that out of our 7 games, we've only lost 1. If we won this game, then we would have a good record, which meant a chance of making it to the playoffs.
"You nervous?"
I placed my school uniform in my gym bag, glancing at Jieun as I spoke, "A little, but it's just early game jitters."
Jieun nodded, about to speak until we were cut off by a loud voice.
"Everyone, gather around!" A girl called out, causing the rest of the team to jog towards her.
Jieun and I looked at each other before joining the large crowd. We all huddled around, eyes focused on one girl, Oh Chaewon. She had thick black hair, her natural curls stopping at her mid-back. Her bold, chestnut brown eyes scanned our team, her fuschia pink lips curling into a warming smile. She had cream-toned skin with rosy cheeks. She was one of the many seniors on our team. Despite the fact that we didn't have a captain, we all looked to her as a leader figure. She radiated a strong aura, something we all respected about her.
"This game means a lot to everyone, and this game is what determines if we can make it to the playoffs. We have to make the best of it. It doesn't matter whether we win or lose - as long as we try our best, it's all that matters. Now let's go kill it out there!" Chaewon declared, determination swimming in her eyes.
We all cheered, breaking away from the crowd. We made our way towards the hallway, getting ready to go out onto the field. Chaewon led us all, securing the helmet on her head.
Since my fight with Taehyung, it's been hard to focus. He hasn't spoken to me in days. Every time I try to talk to him, he always pushes away from me. When I apologized to him, he said it was okay, yet he still ignores me. I decided to just leave him be, give him some space. It was killing me, the sight of our friendship crumbling before me. It was mostly my fault and I don't think I'll ever forgive myself if Taehyung and I stop being friends. I just hope that maybe this game will take my mind off of him
