Saying Goodbye

Matilda sighed as she packed her bag. She looked around the house she had lived in for her entire life. She couldn't believe she'd have to tell it bye so soon.

Matilda wasn't exactly the most behaved child. She fought with her parents more than she fought with anyone else. Yet, as she looked at her lavender room, she felt sad. She did one last sweep of the room.

They had packed just about everything. Her mattress, her two dressers, her desk, every piece of furniture she had. Matilda had never seen her room so empty. It was an odd feeling.

Tamara hung back. She knew this was the hard part. Her and Matilda would stay up at night going back and forth with stories of fights. Neither of them were the best with authority figures. Yet, when she packed her room to move out, it was hard.

Ell hadn't know this feeling. Ell left at an incredibly young age. After her mother's death, Ell's father remarried. Ell did what she wanted when she wanted as away of acting out. This led to her basing heads with her step mother. Being the head strong person she was, Ell chose to leave. Thusly, at age 15 she was legally on her own.

As far as Tori went, Tamara didn't know her story. She didn't care to know either. All she knew was, they didn't understand. Not when she went through this, not now with Matilda.

She watched the red-haired girl sweep the room. "It's weird, huh?"

Matilda jumped and turned to the other girl. She chuckled. "Yeah, a little."

Tamara walked over to the girl. She hugged her. "It gets easier." Matilda dropped her bag and hugged Tamara back.

"I know. I've just lived in this room for so long." Matilda told her. Tamara nodded. "I'm not sure if I'm excited or scared. "

Tamara pulled back and looked the girl in the face. "Don't worry. We will do our best to make you comfortable. It won't feel like home immediately, but one day you'll wake up and realize that it is."

Matilda nodded. She grabbed her bag. "Thank you."

Tamara smiled. "Of course. You know Ell's been excited all week." She said making small talk. Her and Matilda began to walk through the house. Tamara stood back quietly as Matilda hugged her parents.

It was obvious Matilda was holding back tears. Tamara rubbed her back. "It's only goodbye for now." Matilda nodded. Tamara opened the trunk for Matilda's bag. They both got into the car.

Tori and Ell offered Matilda water and snacks. She gratefully took them. Tamara heard Matilda take a shakey breath as the drove away. She patted the girl's shoulder. Matilda smiled and rested her head on the girl's shoulder. Tamara didn't move.
