I don't dance.
Matt scoffed as he remembered those words. Like hell! He swore he'd seen Edd dance before. Sure they were silly little ones, but Edd had never cared what others thought. So why was this the reason he wasn't going to prom?
Well, if Edd wasn't gonna go, neither was he. He had no real reason to go. All he wanted was a chance to dance with Edd. Now how was he gonna do that?
———————
Edd was surprised when Matt asked for a sleepover on prom night, but he accepted it none the less. He had his bag packed and went over. It wasn't that long of a walk.Edd noticed that Matt's parents weren't there. "Odd, they usually never leave this late..." he thought.
The lights were off. "Is there even anyone here? If this is Matt's way of pulling a prank, I'll kill him." Edd pulled out his phone and called Matt.
"Hey." He heard. Edd fully expected there to be loud music in the background, but no. No other noise besides Matt was heard.
"Hey, are you home?" Edd asked.
"Yeah. Are you here?" Matt asked. Edd could hear him shift. "Oh, shit sorry. I'll be down."
Edd heard the call end before he could respond. "What the fuck?"
He heard the door unlock.
————-
Matt stood nervous behind the door. Shakily, he took a breath and squeezed the little remote in his hand.He couldn't believe his parents agreed to let him do this. He'd have to pay them back some how. "Maybe, now isn't the time to be thinking of ways to pay them back!" Matt mentally scolded himself.
Finally he opened the door. He was greeted with exactly what he thought. Edd's jaw dropped as he looked past Matt.
Pushing the remote, Matt could hear the music from the stereo begin. He reached out and pulled Edd into his house.
————-
Edd looked around the house in awe. It had been set up to mimic the prom that they were skipping. There was balloons scattered around and strings of lights hung up.He looked back at Matt. He was dressed in a tux and it suited him. It suited him in so many ways that Edd would've never thought possible. He could feel blush spreed across his face the longer he looked at his friend.
Matt also had a soft blush. Edd could tell from the way he was standing that he was nervous. Edd walked over to the sofa and placed his bag down.
"Uh, So wanna get some punch and stand to the side like nerds?" Edd joked. He honestly couldn't think of anything else to say.
"Okay, Edd, you might be inept, but dude." Edd thought. He was fully ready to retract his statement, until he heard Matt laugh. Breathing a sigh of relief, he smiled at his friend.
"How about we dance and actually take part in this prom. You know, we are the only ones here. No one will judge." Matt said softly. His checks grew darker.
Edd hunched his shoulders. "I mean sure, but I wouldn't really dance to this song. This is more of a couples song." He explained.
Then it hit him. Like a truck straight into a brick wall. It hit him.
———————
Matt could see realization hit Edd. This was it. No going back. Matt prepped himself for rejection."You want to dance, with me?" He heard Edd ask. Matt nodded. "Like a couple?"
"Yeah..." Matt said softly. He didn't want to cry, but he could feel tears coming.
"So, who would be the girl?" Edd asked.
Matt almost jumped at that response. "What do you mean?"
Edd rolled his eyes. "Have you ever danced with someone, like a couple?"
Matt shook his head no.
Edd sighed. "Okay, so I'll be the girl." Edd took Matt's hands and wrapped them around his waist. Then he reached up and wrapped his arms around Matt's neck.
"Now, follow my lead." He instructed. Matt nodded once more.
Truthfully, he couldn't believe this was actually happening. He felt like he was in a dream. Edd was so close. Matt closed his eyes and let the moment sink in. It was all he had ever wanted.
He felt Edd rest his head against his shoulder. Matt peaked at the brunette in his arms.
"Cloud 9 doesn't have shit on this." He thought as he and Edd slow danced.
—————-
Edd hadn't realized how much he wanted this, until this moment. Sure, he had some feelings for Matt, but he never knew how much. Edd didn't want this to end. Not now, not ever.He relaxed into Matt once he felt like Matt had the hang of things. He felt Matt jump slightly as he placed his head on Matt's shoulder.
"How long did he want this?" Edd wondered. "How long did I want this?"
Edd felt Matt remove one of his arms from his waist. Glancing up he saw Matt looking at him with half lidded eyes. Then he felt Matt's hand cup his face. Edd melted into his touch. They stopped dancing.
Rising to his tiptoes, Edd puckered his lips. He let his eyes fall half lidded. Matt leaned down and puckered his lips as well. Closing his eyes, he felt Matt's lips connect with his.
It was swift and shy. Then Matt lead the next kiss. It was firmer, more confident. Edd felt like he'd been swept off his feet.
He pulled back and looked up at Matt.
——————
Matt felt like he'd died and gone to heaven. Edd looked up at his, eyes locked on eyes. The two stood there, just looking into each other's eyes."Edd, I have had the biggest crush on you." Matt confused. Edd's face grew a slightly darker shade.
"Me too." He said softly.
He planted another kiss onto Matt's lips.
"I want you to be my boyfriend." Matt said.
"I want that too." Edd said.
Matt felt his heart flutter. He wrapped his arms around Edd, pulling him into a tight embrace. Matt spun Edd around. Edd giggled like a child.
Those all too familiar lights shown through the windows. Matt sighed, know that this moment was over.
The door unlocked. Matt parents opened the door. The smiled fondly at the two boys. "Sorry, boys the chaperons are here now." Matt's dad joked.
"We're just wrapping up." Matt said. Edd nodded.
"Good, can you boys help us unload groceries?" Matt's mom asked.
The boys hunched their shoulders and went help. Knowing the moment would continue in Matt's room.
