Sorry about how long it took for this chapter... been soooo busy with TrainWreck and life. I'm not sure where this book is going right now, I might jut continue with the fluffiness and just mak this more of a documentation of the characters journey... or put some big dramatic event in with heart ache and emotional upset 🤷♀️ lemme know what you think :)
"The votes have been counted and verified."
The whole room stood in tense silence as they waited for Ant to announce the winner of the first heat.
"The pop idol you have chosen to go straight through to the live semifinals, with an incredible lead of three-quarter of a million votes is..."
Dec's heart had never beat so fast.
Ant had never found himself hanging so desperately off the two words that would come down his ear in any moment.
'It's Declan' Ants eye's flew open and he had to physically restrain himself from reacting.
"DECLAN DONNELLY!!"
Screams erupted from the crowd and rumbles of applause shook the room like an earthquake. The only person who hadn't moved was Dec. His face was one of pure shock as Will slapped him on the back and the judges clapped for his victory.
Ant walked over to him, placed a comforting arm on his shoulder and held the mic between them. Dec looked at Ant for a moment as the presenter mouthed at him 'you won'. Tears sprung to Dec's eyes and his body couldn't comprehend doing anything other than jump into his boyfriend's arms to devour him in tight hug.
There were some aww's from the hundreds of people in the crowd and a couple of wolf whistles, led by Stevie.
Ant squeezed Declan one more time before regretfully pulling away and ending the show, he didn't once let go of Dec's hand though.
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Dec had never felt so completely overwhelmed as he walked off stage into the next round of applause and congratulations, he felt spellbound, like his mind was in a bewitched haze and couldn't properly catch up with his body.
The only thing that had managed to carry him through the following moments since the announcement was Ant strong hand, tightly engulfing his smaller one. Ant probably didn't even know what he was doing but if he had let go then Dec doubted he could handle the size of the crowd and the amount of people patting his back and ruffling his hair. Nothing was malicious but it made the small Geordie feel unsteady and he was already fragile from the shear shock of his unexpected win.
He finally took a breath of air when Ant had led them to a secluded broom cupboard alway from the buzz of back stage. Dec finally felt the liquor of emotions and excitement leave his veins, letting the realisation of what just happened sink in.
"Are you okay Decky? Im so proud of you." As he looked into Ants Deep green Iris's and dilated pupils he couldn't stop the huge happy grin that set on his face, nor himself from squealing and jumping up to wrap his arms and legs around his laughing boyfriend. "Careful there Decky I might've dropped ya."
Dec giggled and nuzzled his head into Ants shoulder. "You'd never drop me." Ant just smiled and tilted his cheek to smooth against the soft brown locks that tickled his skin. He felt a warm surrounding his body from Declan's limbs that wrapped tightly around his waist, which spread through his body back up to his heart.
