I anxiously wait for Tyler to pick up the phone. It had been ringing for a while now, maybe he was going to answer. I'm about to hang up when a drowsy voice answers the phone.
"-Hello..." His voice groans, sounding upset and tormented.
"It's Aria.Tyler, are you ok, you sound...upset." I ask. I hear him sigh gently, and at that point, I knew he'd been crying.
"Yeah, I'm okay." He lies.
"Tyler, don't lie to me. You're forgetting I know what it's like." I reply, acting as if I was his mother.
"You're right Aria, you do know what it's like, and I'm sorry you have to."
"And remember I'm here for you as much as you are for me!" I include, still acting like his mother. There was a brief, awkward silence that was broken by me.
"I listened to one of your songs by the way, it really...it really helped, thank you."
"Yeah, it helped me with what I was going through at the time I wrote it." He said, not really interested in telling me what he was going through.
"Talk to me, I need to know you're ok, why did you run out of my house this morning?" I ask.
"I don't know, I wanted to cry, and I didn't want you to see..." Tyler says, his voice straining.
"Why did you want to cry?" I ask him, getting a little choked up myself.
"It's just, my friend, he was going through something like you were. And he...well, killed himself." Tyler sighs. I hold my breath,
'No wonder Tyler's so broken...' I think.
"Listen, we're both depressed, how about we go out somewhere?" I say, feeling confident.
"Yeah, is it ok if I bring my friend Josh?"
"Yeah, whatever." I say hesitantly, because I know that if he brings Josh, would make it awkward.
"Great. So it's like 1:30, so we'll meet at you're apartment say 2:00?" He asks, and I can tell he's happy that he can bring Josh.
"Yeah, bye!" I smile, because Tyler's actually happy.
"Bye." He replies, hanging up.
As I put down the phone, I sigh with relief. I could do with leaving the house. I head straight to the shower to quickly rinse my hair. Once I'd finished, I put on some clothes, consisting of black skinny jeans, an Aztec print shirt and a plain black hoodie.
I start to dry my hair, and then comb it so it's actually considered presentable. Getting my shoes on, I hear a loud, hollow knock at the door. The rhythm of the knock sounds a little like the Mario Kart theme tune.
"Come in! Its open!" I shout, doing my lace up on my left shoe.
"Hey!" Josh smiles, immediately recognising me.
"Hey." I say back, not even half as enthusiastic as Josh was.
"So, where shall we go?" Tyler asks, oblivious that me and Josh already know each other.
"Umm...I don't mind." I reply, smiling joyfully.
"How about we go to the park, it'll be pretty peaceful round there!" Josh points out, knowing that Tyler wouldn't want to go somewhere too crowded.
"Sounds good to me." I say, shrugging my shoulders.
"Yeah, ok." Tyler adds, nodding his head in agreement. Everything suddenly became awkward between us all, and I don't know why.
"Ok, now I've got my other shoe on, shall we go?" I ask.
"Come on then!" Josh grins, already heading out the front door.
We all walk out, and I'm starting to regret ever asking Tyler to come out with me. I should of just stayed inside, where I can be alone. It's weird how I was just speaking to Tyler on the phone about 30 minutes ago, and he was in a bad state, and now he's here with Josh almost as if nothing has happened. Maybe that's why Tyler will always be better than me, because he can find hope, even when it's not there.
