Richie was able to convince Maggie to let him use the car, as long as he promised to do what he needed to do then he home. Richie didn't know why Maggie was so calm, but he accepted it and decided to use it to his advantage.
Richie made Eddie sit in the back seat, engulfed in a sweatshirt so no one saw him. Eddie wasn't happy that he couldn't sit next to Richie. Since he had decided he loved Richie, he'd been more protective and possessive.
"When I turn human can I try french fries? If I'm not demon that means I can eat whenever I want, and I'm tired of raw meat," Eddie said, laying across the back seat.
"Eds, as soon as this is all over, we can go to the diner and you can get fries, milkshakes, and whatever else you want," Richie said with a wide smile on his face.
Eddie hummed happily. "Can I also go swimming? And pet a dog? Or a cat? I don't care which, I just want to pet one."
Richie laughed. "When you're human and you aren't in any danger, we can fo whatever you want. I'll show you what it's like to live a human life," he said, holding his hand back so Eddie could grab onto it.
Eddie did, eagerly, lacing his fingers with Richie and leaning his head on Richie's arm.
"How's your side?" Richie asked, checking in with Eddie since he hadn't complained of any pain since the initial wound.
"I'm alright," Eddie said. "I heal quickly since demons are immortal and I'm part demon. I'm not immortal but I heal quick, unlike most humans."
The car came to a stop and Richie told Eddie to pull the hood over his head so he wouldn't be seen.
The two ran inside the old house that every kid had been warned not to go into. Homeless people slept there and it was filled with rusty nails and broken glass. They walked through the house cautiously until they came to the kitchen.
Eddie whimpered, clearly uncomfortable, so Richie let him climb onto his back so he didn't have to be touching the ground.
"This place is gross," Eddie snarled, opening his wings and wrapping them around himself and Richie.
"Yeah, it is. Don't fret, my love, we'll be out of here soon," Richie said, looking around and grimacing at the filth. He was never obsessed with hygiene, but the Neibolt house made him want to vomit.
Breaking glass crackled behind them and Richie turned around to see the others making their way into the broken down house. Mike was holding the box, which Eddie took and put the glass object around his neck like a necklace. He wasn't as opposed to it now, but he didn't plan on using it right away either.
"Wh-what's the p-plan?" Bill asked, standing close to Stan and shuddering at the disgusting sight of the house.
Mike handed Eddie the journal, who opened it and smiled when he found the page he wanted.
"We need to find the opening to the portal," Eddie said, skipping toward the stairs in the house. "Come on!"
"This is the happiest I've seen that demon and it's kind of scary," Bev said, grabbing Ben's hand nervously.
"He said he feels love," Richie said, following Eddie toward the stairs. "For me."
"He loves you?" Stan asked, cautiously trailing behind Bill.
"He said he does. I just want the demon piece out of him so he can be normal and not be in danger from Bowers and his dad," Richie responded, the old stairs creaking as he walked down them.
Eddie was standing beside what looked like the entrance to a well. They all looked down it, but it was an empty, black abyss.
"Stand back," Eddie said. "This is the entrance."
"Eds, is this a good idea?" Richie asked, grabbing Eddie's hand. "What if they take you?"
Eddie smiled and cupped Richie's face in his hand. "They won't. I'm doing this for us," he said, standing on his toes to press a kiss to Richie's lips.
Richie frowned but backed away, allowing Eddie to stand over the well. He opened the journal and read some words that sounded like Latin.
Nothing happened at first, and everyone thought that the plan had failed.
Then, a whistling sound spread through the room, echoing off the walls. A crackling sound came from inside the well, and the teenagers could all see smoke. Flames began pouring over the edge of the well like lava, making all of the teens back away and Eddie take flight so it didn't touch him.
A loud growling sounded through the room, and they saw it. A real demon bursting out of the well.
It was nearly six feet tall with long limbs, ashy skin, and fangs jutting from its mouth. Its wings looked like Eddie's, but much bigger. The creature hissed seeing the teenagers, but it came to a stop when Eddie flew in front of it, stealing the attention.
The demon stopped and stared for a second, before turning to the well. It held out its hand and the fire stopped pouring, leaving the ground a burnt mass of space. The demon transformed into its human form and Eddie landed in front of it, folding his wings behind his back.
"Why have you summoned me?" the demon asked, glaring at Eddie.
"I need answers. I want to be full human. How do I remove the demon part of me?" Eddie asked, looking up at the demon who towered nearly a foot over Eddie.
The demon scoffed. "You have the tool, boy," it said, pointing at the necklace that Eddie wore.
"I want the demon gone, not contained," Eddie snarled. "What if someone got ahold of it?"
The demon growled again and grabbed the necklace from Eddie, stabbing it into his heart. Eddie shrieked, and Richie tried to dive toward him, only to be held back by the other demon's powers.
Eddie collapsed, the device sticking out of his heart. He was wailing and his wings began to shrink, his skin becoming more tan in color. He was crying, his growls sounding more human than animalistic.
As soon as the wailing began, it stopped.
The demon held the necklace up, a red colored substance on the inside. "You can't remove what you are, boy. You may need it someday," it said, before leaving the device on the ground and leaping into the well, vanishing.
Richie rushed toward Eddie, who was unconscious. There was a charred mark right in the sweatshirt where Eddie's heart was, where the device had been stabbed.
Richie grabbed the necklace, handing it to Bev. He then lifted up Eddie, who whined and groaned. His eyes didn't open, which terrified Richie. What if removing the demon had hurt Eddie in some way?
They carried him up to the main floor and left the house. Before they could get in Maggie's car, a voice called out from behind them.
"Give us the boy."
Richie turned to see Butch and Henry, both pointing guns toward Richie, who had Eddie gathered in his arms.
