I opened the door to see the mailman, totally forgetting that Jack's letters always get here right around this time.
But since it's been almost a month I figured I wouldn't see him anymore. The mail man greeted me with a sympathetic smile.
He's never done as little as give me smile before, so now I began to worry a bit.
stop overthinking.
I kindly returned a slight grin and with that he retreated from the door. I immediately shut the door and strolled to the couch.
I was a bit anxious to open the letter, my hands slightly shaking now.
Just as I was about to open the letter, Ally had texted me that she was outside.
I sighed and said to myself while looking at the envelope, "I guess you'll have to wait till later."
I quickly ran upstairs and grabbed my purse while stuffing my phone and wallet in there.
I rushed down the stairs, making sure I didn't eat it on the way down and made my way out the door.
I jumped in the passenger seat and immediately engulfed ally in a hug.
"Ohmygosh I missed you so much alls!" I practically yelled from so much excitement.
It had been a while since we've seen each other.
"I missed you way more Lena. It's so good to finally have a girls day again, I really did miss you."
"yea me too... Well, enough with the sappy crap. Where are we gonna go and how have you been girly?"
"I thought we'd head to the mall." she said with a playful smile on her face.
Ally was a shopaholic.
I just laughed and rolled my eyes. She giggled at my actions knowing that I roll my eyes for practically every thing.
Ally started the car and pulled out of my drive way. The mall was a good 15 minutes from my house so we just caught up with each other during the ride.
"I've been great actually, I found a new apartment, not to far from yours and I finished moving in yesterday so I'm actually really excited to live on my own."
Ally had been living in Omaha with her parents but she finally decided she wanted to be on her own and that's what she did.
She paused for a moment to give me a soft look then began asking,
"So how are you? And I mean for real, how have you been?"
I kinda hesitated because truth is, I've been crying myself to sleep for months. Ridiculous, I know right? But It's like a piece of me is gone.
Jack is that missing piece I need. I know it sounds cheesy or whatever but I need him.
"Umm, I'm good I guess. I mean it's still really hard but it's been easier as the days pass."
We reached a red light and ally took the opportunity to face me a little.
She hesitated at first but then spoke up, "Do you know when he's coming back?"
I sighed trying to fight back my tears, It was kind of a touchy subject.
"In March." I said in a low voice.
