//Jack//

I was not looking forward for today at all. The only reason I'm going is because of Elena. It was supposed to be me and her today, but instead I'm going with Leigh.

Leigh is my mom's friend's daughter. We were also childhood friends but my mom arranged the whole thing so it wasn't even that I asked her. Trust me, if I had a choice it would be Elena.

Always.

The dance is in a few hours and I'm at my house getting ready with Johnson. He was going with a girl who remains a mystery to me.

He said he wanted it to be a surprise. Since Johnson and I were gonna ride together, we had to pick up Leigh and Johnson's date.

I hadn't seen him in a while because he was on summer vacation with his family but he came back for the Omaha County Dance because it falls on the day before school starts.

After thinking about tomorrow, Johnson interrupted my thoughts,"Jack, you okay man?"

I blinked a few times before processing what he had said, not answering him, I went back into deep thought. I know he knows that I'm thinking about Elena.

Although Ally and Johnson have never met, I think they'd get along considering how much they have in common.

They both know us like the back of their heads. It's really scary at times but I'm grateful to have Johnson because he's been there for me during the hardest times in my life.

Especially when Emma died. Johnson had been crushing on Emma at the time, he was devastated beyond words.

I've never seen him interested in any girl since then. He could easily get any girl he wants yet he's been single all these years. Times like this, I really wish Emma was here she'd love Omaha.

Once again Johnson was waving his hand in my face trying to get my attention.

"I swear you have an attention span of a walnut sometimes." He chuckled at his own comment while I couldn't help but smile at my best friend's ridiculousness.

"Sorry, I was just thinking."

Johnson smirked and walked towards the bathroom mirror adjusting his tux. He turned back toward me, still smirking as if he had me all figured out. "Dude, you're whipped."

I wasn't in any state of denying how I feel about Elena. I know she feels the same way but it's a complicated love triangle.

"I know man, I can't help it. She consumes my every thought," I sighed, running my fingers through my hair.

Johnson's smirk slowly faded once he realized I was being serious. He walked over to me and patted my shoulder. "Don't stress it Jack, I know it's meant to be so just have faith man."

I smiled a bit. He knew exactly what to say, even if it sounded cheesy and shit. It was the truth.

Johnson's phone vibrated a few times, interrupting our conversation. He took it out of his pocket and opened up a text message.

He got up and stood by the bathroom door leaning against the frame. After he finished texting, he looked back up with a certain look in his eyes.

He needed a favor.

"Okay what is it? What do you want"?

He sighed in defeat putting his hands up jokingly in surrender.

"Alright you got me," he played along, "My date asked if her friend could ride with us since her date can't pick her up."

I shrugged my shoulders, not really caring,"Why not, the more the merrier," I smiled sarcastically.
