This day could not have possibly gotten any worse. Not only does Jack think I possibly cheated on him but the smirking devil himself won't stop taunting him. We've been waiting in the principles office for what seems an eternity.
Just take deep breaths. It's all going to be okay.
"You three, come into my office."
The three of us stood up and sat down on the maroon cushioned chairs that were lined up side by side.
"What I can't seem to understand is why you boys can't behave yourselves," Principal McKinley sighed, running his temples with his forefingers.
My leg shook nervously as I glanced to the side catching a glimpse of David's smirk and Jack's face of defeat.
"You know what's gonna happen now don't you Jack?" he sighed for the millionth time in the past two minutes.
"Sir if you could ju-"
Principal McKinley cut him off, not wanting to hear anymore excuses, "My hands are tied Jack, I'm sorry."
David's smirk didn't falter.
Nervousness and guilt gnawed it's way through my body.
If you hadn't stayed in the stupid janitors closet with David in the first place we wouldn't be in this mess , I mentally scolded.
"Sir I know my behavior was unacceptable but I'm begging you , please don't pull me from tonight's game. The scouts and my parents are going to be there counting on me." Jack pleaded.
David sighed dramatically leaning back into his chair , clearly bored of this whole situation. But that didn't go unnoticed by principal McKinley , only annoying him further.
"I'm sorry Mr. Matthews , am I boring you?" he asked rhetorically , pushing his glasses further up the bridge of his nose.
David immediately sat up straight , regretting expressing his nonchalantness toward our current situation. "N-No sir."
"I thought not," he replied rolling his eyes at David's foolishness. "However we do need to discuss consequences"
"He started it sir , it wasn't even my fault," David pointed out with a ghostly smirk, knowing that technically he was right.
My face mirrored the frown that was now settled on Jack's face. Not only was I upset with myself but mostly dissapointed. How could I put myself in a position like that?
I wanted to kick myself in the face repeatedly for not listening to my better judgment and leaving the first chance I had.
"Jack is this true? Did you throw the first punch?" Principal McKinley asked, hope tinted in his voice not wanting David's words to be true.
"I did , but-", Jack stopped himself , realizing there was no point in arguing further.
"Look, you boys caused a scene in the hallway today and I can't leave this unpunished. David, you are doing service hours for the school for the rest of the year and detention two times a month."
David's face morphed into one of annoyance and anger. He was about to protest but was given no opportunity to do so.
Principal McKinley turned his gaze over to Jack and sighed, disappointment settling onto his face. Jack has never been inside of the prinicpals office for getting in trouble.
In fact Mr.McKinley loves Jack , he's the star student of the school; good grades, amazing athelete, and he even volunteers to help set up for school events.
