"So what you're telling me is that once I went through the vail or shield, whatever it is, that my power was heightened due to the power of what is outside that thing?"

Ava and I were seated near the camp fire just beside the Great wall. Sebastian and Eric at least came to a few hours ago but they were not very happy that a girl had to save me in the end from the mad man especially Eric, such a sweetie. Sebastian on the other hand was just embarrassed that he got his ass handed to him by a man and a tree. So whilst the men went looking for wood, Ava and I were keeping each other Company.

"Exactly. I have seen many go through the process but you were somehow different. It was like your powers had taken hold of you once it got heightened" Ava answered

She was right about that. As soon as I was through that veil type thing or whatever it is I could feel my power take hold of my body. The nausea hit me like wave after wave sending me to my knees clutching my chest from the pain. Soon after the tingly feeling came along. It was not only moving up my body it felt like it was crawling under my skin, rubbing over my muscles. This time it wasn't a great feeling like before whenever I used magic, it felt like it turned into pain and suffering. I never wanted to feel that pain again. It lasted a few hours but when it passed I couldn't believe it, luckily Ava knew a remedy that could take away some of the pain.

"I am just glad it's over" I said with a big smile. "Can I ask you something Ava?"

"Sure" She said as turned towards me. The fire caught her eyes making the green stand out more than the blue within her eyes.

"Did my brother pass through as well?"

Ava turned her attention to the fire as if she was thinking of what to say. I could see her chest moving up and down but not in a normal way. Her chest movement was faster than those I have seen of Eric or even my mom when they breathe.

"Yes he did. He passed through before my shift began. If it was just me on guard then none of this would've happened."

"What do you mean?" I asked very confused.

"Your brother killed the guard that was on duty."

He was getting more and more consumed by the darkness. How could he just kill an innocent man and not even have a guilty conscience after that. That is no way to treat human let alone other who are only trying to their job.

"I'm so sorry."

"It's not your fault." She said giving me a smile.

"That man called you a guardian?"

"I was wondering when that was going to come up" She gave a very high pitched laugh.

Well technically it was bothering since I saw the guy turn as white as snow as soon as he had eyes on her. I know she was holding a bow and arrow but that was not the reason why he could turn so white.

"I am a guardian. We are a unique force that guards the entrances of Camelot. Some are lucky enough to guard the king himself others like me have the job standing outside every day."

"Sounds like an interesting yet dangerous job but that's what I meant by the question. When he called you a guardian, he was as white as snow. As though you were a ghost."

"I have no answer for that question. I'm sorry"

"Its fine just wanted to know."

"How about I go see where the men are. Be right back."

And there Ava was gone in the darkness. Leaving me all alone in the darkness. I turned my attention to the fire, watching the gold and red flames move within the flames of death.

"Hello Katherine" a voice came from behind me.

Jumping up from the ground I turned only to see something I never thought I would behind me, a spirit. A white light floating in the air. The glow alone could be a few lightbulbs formed into one that never needed energy or anything to keep it floating.

"Who? Who are you?"

The white light suddenly became brighter and brighter that I had to block the light with my hand otherwise I would've been blind. When the light dimmed down, I lowered my hand only to see the light was replaced by a girl standing in front of me. She was pure white, like the light was. She was not older than my mother from the looks of it, she had long hair that was also braided down her side. She wore an old type of medieval dress, who was she?

"My name is Gwen Pendragon"

"You are Arthurs Wife?" I asked, shocked down to my core.

"I was." When she spoke her voiced echoed. I guess it's because it's the dead thing, which sounds so mean.

"You're the one who has been following me? Why?"

"I am. I made promise to protect both you and young Sebastian." She said.

"Promise to who?" I asked. I was feeling so confused but also shocked that a spirit was actually standing here in front of me.

"A nice man named, Gerry." DADDY!

"My father! You've seen my father" I was trying so hard to hold back my tears but I felt like it could explode any second now.

"I have. He is a lovely man. Proud of the woman you are becoming." She said with a smile. One that made my heart feel loved and warm. I miss him every day.

"Listen!" She began talking but something came to my mind that I had interrupt her.

"Wait? How can I see you? I use to only hear you?"

"Listen! Trust no one! Leave Sebastian and the rest. The journey alone is dangerous, your father said you had a great heart. Don't let them get hurt."

There were so many questions in my head but before I could ask any she was already gone. The light was already gone leaving me alone with fire to guide my light.

"Wait, wait!" I yelled but no such luck.

Was she right? Could I not trust anyone not even Sebastian? She was right about one thing I would never let anyone get hurt whilst on my watch but I already did. How could I let them come! Dammit Katherine! You got side tracked! I walked over to my back and threw it over my shoulder. Taking one last look at the forest where Eric and the rest disappeared into but I knew in my heart that this was the right thing to do.

"Forgive me!"

I ran as fast as I could into the complete darkness, away from Eric. Away from home. Away. My heart was pounding, my breath getting more and shallower from all the running but I knew I had to keep going I had to keep running, to keep them safe. To keep everyone safe!
