The car pulled up in front of a stunning mansion. It was huge, even the exterior screamed of wealth.

When Nnadia came down from the car she was nervous and edgy.

" Calm down, he is not even supposed to be home." She muttered to herself.

Nnadia sucked in a breath as the door opened for her. Her stomach felt like it was tied in knots. She looked around and the interior of the house had a warm sense of feeling about it. Everything spoke of luxury.

" Good morning, aunty." She said when she spotted his mom coming towards her with a beautiful smile on her face.

" Good morning, darling, and it's a mom for you. Better get used to it." She smiled even more. " Come let's have breakfast. I have been waiting for you."

As shy as she was, Nnadia replied.

" Thanks, aunty, I mean mom. But I had something before coming."

She lied. She never had the time to eat since her mother has been on her case from dawn until she finally left the house. Wanting her to look perfect for the occasion. She had been all over her from choosing her clothes to reminding her to always have a smile on her face.

" Don't even try playing the shy game with me." Her mother in law told her sternly. " Except you don't take my house to be yours, that is."

Needing no further persuasion, she tried her best to smile and replied.

" It's not like that, mom. I will have breakfast with you."

She followed her mother in law to be in the dining room. Although being a foodie, Nnadia just had a few bites of beef, omelet and French toast. She washed it down with fresh orange juice.

After breakfast, they went into the sitting room.

" So what do you think about my son?" Her future mother in law was straight to the point.

" He seems nice." She replied quietly. Feeling doubtful.

" He is."

The elder woman went on. " You see I have been very worried about him. After his dad passed away, his only focus has been the company and getting more education than he actually needs.

And when he decided to come back home to open even more businesses, I thought if I don't get him married now, then he won't get married until he is old. Because he would be consumed with work and maybe eventually fall in the hands of some gold digger." She informed Nnadia.

" Oh." Was all Nnadia could muster the courage to say.

" Do you know how long your mom and I have been friends?" She asked Nnadia again.

" No, aunt, I mean mom," Nnadia said.

" Really did she not tell you? Well, we have been friends since school days and we remained close even after marriage." She told Nnadia excitedly.

" Wow! That's nice." Nnadia said smiling this time around. She felt fascinated by learning anything about her mom's childhood.

" So, my dear, after your wedding I will be returning back to London. Which means I'm entrusting you with my only child. The only eye I use to see. Please promise me you will take good care of him?" She asked Nnadia pleadingly, with worry evident on her face.

Overwhelmed. Nnadia didn't know what to say to her. The worried look on the woman's face and the kindness she has shown her since they first met gave Nnadia a strong sense of wanting to allay her fears.

" Don't worry, mom, I will take good care of him." She said. Not believing what just came out of her mouth.

Later that day, after they had spent time chatting and unpacking her future mother in law's luggage. Which by the way consisted of large suitcases. Nnadia felt relief wash over her when she finally got home. The woman was nice and all but she has been feeling nervous since morning and couldn't wait to finale getaway

She was also very anxious with fear whenever she heard the doorbell ring. Hoping to God it's not him.

Home, at last, she went to show her mother all the things she brought with her including the very expensive jewelry set the woman had given her. Her mom was overjoyed. And Nnadia knew nothing would make her happier than this marriage.

Later that night she made sure she switched off her phone just so he wouldn't call her. And then she zoomed off to dreamland smiling peacefully.
