" Good evening, Sir, your wife says you should meet her on the terrace after you've freshened up." The cleaner told Abdullah when he got home from the gym on his birthday.
" Okay, thanks." He replied.
He went to his room and took a quick shower. He used his favorite Cologne, put on his jeans and shirt and then went up to meet her.
She was sitting at a candlelit table looking breathtaking.
" Wow!" Abdullah muttered under his breath. He couldn't believe his eyes. How did she find out it was his birthday?
When she spotted him, she started singing with her melodious voice.
" Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, Abdul... Happy birthday to you.
How old are you now, how old are you now, how old are you now... Happy birthday to you.
Chuckling, he replied. " 27."
She quickly ran up to him and hugged him. He wrapped his hands around her. They stayed like that for some minutes. He let go of her slowly.
" Thank you very much." He said, giving her a lazy smile. He wasn't expecting anything like this from her. The way their marriage turned out made him not to have any expectations whatsoever.
" Come here," She said stretching her hands. " Make a wish and blow the candle."
Abdullah smiled and did accordingly.
" Yay..." She screamed with joy when he blew out the candle. The happiness on her face was clearly evident.
" Now, it's time to cut the cake." She told him. She had written a HAPPY BIRTHDAY HUBBY on the cake, and he smiled when he saw it.
" Hubby?" He asked with a smirk on his face.
" Yes, and that too the best. Now after one, two, three go." They cut the cake and burst out laughing, feeding each other the cake. She later gave him his gift after they had dinner.
" Thanks, beautiful, I really appreciate you." He told her after opening his gift. She gave him a lovely shirt and a gold wristwatch.
" Welcome." She said smiling. " So tell me, what did you wish for?" She asked him.
He looked at her seductively, " That you keep smiling always, just like this." He told her sweetly.
Nnadia blushed hard. He got up and went over to her. She stood up facing him. He placed his hands on her cheeks. Her breath hitched. Abdullah removed his hand away from her face and took out his phone from his pocket. He played a song and then placed the phone on the table. He lifted her chin to look into her eyes.
" Do you remember this song? He asked her huskily.
" All too clearly." She replied.
It was the song they had danced to at their wedding reception. Nnadia voluntarily put her hands on her husband's shoulder. He brought her even close with his hand on her lower back. They started moving slowly but didn't speak. Only beautiful eyes boring into each other. Passing secret messages of love and canal want. Their faces started coming closer as if they were drawn by a magnet. Nnadia inhaled his fresh scent. When their nose touched, she shivered. As soon as their eager lips were about to devour each other, Abdullah pulled away from her as if her touch was fire and it burned him.
She stared at him in shock. He refused to look at her.
After a long silence, he spoke.
" Um, thanks again, but I really think that we should get some rest." He told her quietly.
