Nnadia forced herself to open her eyes, as she felt someone's breath fanning her neck. There was also a tight grip on her waist. She gazed down to find Abdullah's hand on her waist. Nnadia smiled, but then she instantly recalled all that happened that evening. With a strong sense of repulsion, she shifted away from him with force.
She stood up and stared down at his sleeping face. Anger and hurt filled her being to the core. She needed to get away from him, being around him only heightened the pain she felt inside. She rushed to the door and slammed it hard in anger.
Outside, the rain was still pouring hard. Nnadia felt like the universe was going in sync with her emotions. She stood at the veranda in the back of the house just crying, as heavy rain fell.
Abdullah had also woken up by the sound of the door slamming. He immediately realized that his wife must have woken up before him and left in anger. That evening, he had ran up to the room to explain to her, only to find her sleeping peacefully with tear stains on her cheeks. He decided not to wake her. So he went and changed his clothes, then cuddled in with her. For a moment there he felt peaceful and happy having her in his arms. More so when he knew that the peace wasn't going to last much longer. As tired and stressed as he was, he fell asleep almost immediately.
Presently, he had no other option than to face the inevitable. He just prayed that she'll show understanding. His heart kept beating rapidly in anxiety, as he ran all around the house in search of her. When he couldn't find her anywhere inside, his worry increased.
" Mom. Is Nnadia with you?" He asked as he barged into his mom's room.
" No. Isn't she supposed to be sleeping? I have been waiting for her to wake up so that she can eat." His mom replied.
" We were both sleeping, mom, but she woke up before me and then she must have left in anger. I don't know what to do mom." He told his mom sadly. She was also alarmed and got up to help him search the house.
" Oh, Allah!" He exclaimed. " Please let her be somewhere inside this house. The weather is very bad and I can't imagine her being somewhere out there." He said, almost in tears.
Abdullah quickly ran under the rain to check with the security at the gate, if Nnadia had left the house.
" Musa, Musa, have you seen my wife?" He worriedly enquired.
" No, Sir. Madam has been inside since she arrived this evening." The security replied.
" Really?" Abdullah asked the man again.
" Yes, Sir, she is definitely inside." The man replied, and Abdullah breathed a sigh of relief. He ran into the house like a mad man, to search all over again. The commotion he was causing had gained him a few audiences. His mom, Amina, and Maria, along with some servants were now staring at him and following him about.
Outside, the night was getting darker, not a single star could be seen. Only dark clouds accompanying a heavy downpour.
" Where could she be," Abdullah said with fear and frustration clearly visible on his face.
" Calm down, bro, she is not a small child to just disappear like that. Maybe she left you because... " Amina was speaking when Abdullah cut her off with a roar.
" Will you just shut up? I did not remember asking for your opinion."
That was enough to make her shrink back a few inches. For the first time, she was feeling scared because Abdullah has never yelled at her before, all through their childhood he had protected and pampered her. His current anger at her made her shiver.
