"Mr. Knight?"

"Yes Mr. Carter! Please come in" said Xander while checking everything in the food tray and gesturing Rosaline to take the tray and go to Sierra's room.

"Please I have asked you to call me Jeremy" replied Jeremy while entering the dining area of Xander's mansion.

"I would call you by your name, only if you call me Xander!" stated Xander looking at Jeremy. His blue-green eyes depicted happiness and achievement. Xander took a seat at the dining table and gestured Jeremy to take a seat as well.

"Ok then. So, tell me what you wanted to know about Mason?" asked Jeremy while taking a seat opposite to Xander and adjusting himself. After getting completely comfortable Jeremy threw a glance at Xander.

"Well anything and everything. You see, even a small hint will open a huge puzzle" stated Xander while slicing his French toast with a knife and raised his eyes to meet Jeremy's. Suddenly the coldness and anger was back in Xander's eyes which made Jeremy to flinch a little.

"That's true" replied back Jeremy and took a bite of his French toast and continued speaking after he swallowed it.

"I have met Mason only a few times. To be honest, Mason was a very simple guy. He was good in his studies and used to work part time in a pizza corner every evening and in some book shop every weekend"

"The most important thing to me was, Sierra. Sierra used to be happy talking about him. You know she is really very reserved and would not talk much about anyone at home. And one day suddenly she talked about Mason; which obviously surprised me"

"As I said before, she never used to talk about anyone at home. It was always me who used to ask her about her classmates or about her day. But strangely when it came to Mason it was like she never got tired of talking about him. That was enough to sow the seeds of doubt in my head. But as a father my daughter's happiness always mattered to me more"

"And you never tried to run a background check on Mason?" asked Xander in a slightly complaining tone looking directly at Jeremy. His blue-green eyes were boring into Jeremy's soul. And Jeremy gulped without his knowledge.

"Well that thought never crossed my brain" said Jeremy in an extremely cautious and scared tone. His answer made Xander to clench his jaw tightly and his fingers curled into fists. Xander kept looking at him for a few seconds and suddenly released his fingers.

"Carry on..." said Xander with his gaze still stuck at Jeremy.

"It is just that I heard about him and of course I was a bit curious to know about him. After all it was about Sierra so I had to verify a few things" stated Jeremy a concerned and a genuine tone. Love for his daughter was oozing out in his voice and it was of course noticed by Xander.

"So, what did you do then?" asked Xander while taking a small gulp of his coffee. His eyes still fixed at Jeremy's face.

"So, I asked Sierra about him and tried to meet Mason in public. You know, I just didn't want to make them uncomfortable or embarrass Sierra in front of anyone. So, I used to keep it as minimal as possible. But yes, what all Sierra told me I had got it cross verified" said Jeremy still looking at Xander.

"Okay! What all did Sierra mention?" asked Xander setting his coffee mug on the table.

"Like, I was told that he was an orphan and grew up in several foster care centres. Also, that he worked part time in a pizza corner and that book shop. I was also told that he was trying for several scholarships so that his tuition fee was covered" said Jeremy trying to recollect what all he knew and verified about Mason.
