tango stepped into the outside world for the first time in weeks. the air felt fresh on his face and the warmth of the morning sun was like a hug welcoming him back into the open. a cool breeze even kicked up just as he walked out as well, ruffling his hair just the tiniest bit. however, he had no time to stall, as much as he'd like to. he needed to leave area 77 entirely to be completely safe. fortunately, scar was nowhere to be seen and doc was too busy gawking to even try to catch up with him, so carrying on with this should be relatively easy.

he almost reached for a rocket, fully ready to take off with an elytra, but realization dawned on him that his inventory was empty, and all his items are probably hiding somewhere area 77's storage. shit. "looks like i'll be walking..."

~~magical timeskip bc writing someone walking is boring and hard and i dont like it. this is a totally valid reason.~~

the hermit stood at the gate, and couldn't help but marvel at how nice it looked. scar must've put lots of blood, sweat, and tears into this. however, the fatal flaw of the build was that its bars were too far apart, allowing tango to slip right through them without even getting his horns caught. once he was through, he scanned the area.

that's when tango remembered. doc had always gone on about some of the other hermits opposing their forces. usually he tuned doc out, as it was usually just the same old thing. he kind of wishes he hadn't, now, since he had no idea where the other hermits were located. he didn't even know who they were. were they new? who knows.

he walked aimlessly for a bit, only now realizing that he was getting incredibly hungry. maybe he should have held onto those carrots doc gave him. thankfully, his wondering had blessed him, and he stumbled upon a yellow and black line, directly bordering a densely packed forest. if he hides there, then maybe doc and scar won't find him?

he crossed it cautiously, treading carefully through the trees. well, as carefully as he could. the branches were so thickly massed together that it was certain this was planted by a hermit. his suspicions were further confirmed by the very abrupt entrance into a clearing, and the deafening whir of a piston machine going off. as much as tango loved redstone, he would also love to rip his eardrums out just as much.

trying his best to ignore the noise, he scanned around the clearing, which had been turned into a campsite. lots of rvs were parked around a campfire, and peace banners hung from the ledges. "hippies?" he guessed, treading further into the camp, his steps light and nervous.

the annoyingly loud piston machine turned off all of a sudden, and an uncomfortable silence befell the place. unless that machine is automatic, there's obviously someone here. and they're too close to area 77 to be trustworthy. tango was too nervous to sprint back into the cover of the forest, though, so he just stood, frozen as a statue, waiting to catch a glimpse of a hermit.

tango's waiting game didn't last long, though, as he watched... rendog? leave one of the rvs, followed by grian. either they've both gone blind, or they were intentionally ignoring him, since bright orange is probably the worst color to wear while spying on some hippies in the middle of a clearing.

however, the one hermit that did notice him was not someone he expected. that hermit was none other than one of his best friends: impulse.

impulse, who had been seated by the fire, sprinted towards him as quickly as he could, catching tango in a hug, which was reciprocated. "tango! i've missed you so much..." he murmured. "where have you been?"

tango shook his head. impulse must've been so happy to see him that he failed to notice the orange jumpsuit. "it's not that important, but..." he replied, pulling away from impulse's hug, allowing his location for the past indefinite amount of weeks to be shown.

"area 77? what have they done to you?" impulse asked, his voice suddenly taut. "and why would they want you, of all people? not to be rude or anything."

the other hermit shrugged. "i have no idea." he said. "doc wouldn't answer me when i asked him. must be some sick game."

impulse was quiet for a moment. "i see... well, i should get you to the others. as you can probably tell, i'm not the only guy here." he said, matter of factly. "come, this way."
