Engagement.

Dave’s POV

    This morning me and Kankri went out to buy the ring. (Ring will be shown at the end of the chapter!) It was a black ring with a ruby in the middle. It was honestly stunning and fit him well. I used my money from the assassin job to buy it. Me and Kankri, before lunch, headed out to go to the “store” when really we went to set up the place. I asked for the night off at the club and Mr. Slick gladly said yes due to the occasion. The place that we set up, it was honestly a beautiful sight. It was a gazebo with fairy lights hung from each pole and strung on the top as well. The bridge to the gazebo has candles leading up to the place and in the gazebo it had some petals on it. Once the whole thing was done I gave Kankri the job of guarding it and lighting the candles when the time comes. He accepted and said that he would just bring a book to read in the meantime.

    I quickly went to pick up food and head home. I was really nervous but it would, hopefully, be worth it. Once I arrived home I called everyone for food and Karkat came down late wearing one of my shirts. No one questioned it and neither did I. After lunch we went out to the store. I was goofing around with the others which felt nice. Karkat and Dirk soon got fed up with us and told us to behave. We listened and walked around a bit more. As we were turning the corner I saw Emily, the girl who had done my dad dirty, out of the corner of my eye. I quickly departed away from the group and flash stepped her to a cliff. She was scared since she was right by the edge. I took out my blade and stabbed her four times in the heart and one in the skull. I then flash stepped her to a furnace and burned her body. For the most part I cleaned myself off. I flash stepped to change clothes, burn the blade, and go back to the store.

    When I arrived back at the store Karkat pulled me aside to talk and I also noticed I had blood of my fingers to I quickly cleaned that off. We talked a bit and he seemed really disappointed. So much for trying to propose tonight.. I sigh and he hugs me tightly, I, of course, hug back. He tells me that it’s gonna be okay and that he’s glad I don’t have to do this job anymore. I nod and we go back to the group hand in hand. Soon after that we left the store back to the house. We chilled around the house a bit until it was time for our date.

    I was in a black tux with a red undershirt and white tie. I had black shoes and black cross earrings with it. Karkat stepped down the last step wearing an all black tux as well with a gray undershirt and red tie with all black dress shoes all matching with his stud earrings. I grabbed his hand as we hop into my car and we drive off to St. Elmos. “Dave, this seems expensive.” I chuckle as I pull into a spot. I kiss his head and look at him.

“Anything for you, hun” A faint blush creeped onto both of our cheeks as we got out of the car. Once we got inside I told the host my name as he led us to our seat. It was really nice and I heard they had good food. Once we were seated Karkat started to fidget. I asked for his hand which he gave. Soon we both ordered water and stakes. I had already told him it was on me so he was a bit calmer. Me on the other hand, fuck no, I was scared out of my mind. Once we finished I paid and we left to the beach.

    I parked and we walked to the spot where everything was set up. “Dave.” He stood in awe. “DId you do this?” He asked while we walked up to the gazebo.

“Yeah.” I paused before having him look me in the eyes. “Look, Karkat. I remember when we first met, it’s not hard to but still. I was pretty shocked that you still decided to hang out with me. But, over the time that you decided to hang out with me we grew closer. I was finding comfort in you and actually had a friend. You have been my first everything and I’m so grateful for that. I know I’m labeled as dangerous but I had no choice. You have been my boyfriend and my best friend for so long and,” I got down on one knee holding his left hand as his right covered his mouth. “Karkat Vantas, would you marry me?” He started to nod rapidly and I slipped the ring onto his finger. As soon as I got up we hugged tightly and I kissed his nose. He giggled as we locked eyes and giggled again. I blew out the candles and we packed up the place. We put the stuff in the backseat of my car then hopped into the front.

    We giggled and held hands the whole time home. I was so happy. He admired the ring most of the ride. Once we got home everyone was waiting in the living room. Karkat and me sighed and then we raised our hands to show the rings. They all cheered and Jane started to make us a cake. It was chaotic but I’m creating my family and I couldn’t be happier.
