Dean was standing outside the door to the room all the angels (except Gabe) had gone into. He was chewing on the cuticle on his thumb, anxiously awaiting one of the angels to come out. He knew that he should probably go downstairs and get some food, maybe take a shower. But he found himself glued to the floor as panic filled his chest. He was worried. For the first time he could remember, he was worried about someone other than himself or Sammy. How had he gotten here?
"Hey, Deano," Lucifer said as he opened the door. The eldest archangel seemed to fair the best out of all the angels, but he looked tired. And anxious.
"Is Cas okay?" Dean asked, irritated by the fact that he sounded way more concerned than he should have. He was overreacting, right? Then again, what with the sketchbook...had that been mutual? He wished someone just give him answers. Even if something had happened between himself and the angel, that didn't mean anything now. He didn't remember any of that.
"Yeah, he's doing alright. He's passed out though, I don't think he'll be awake any time soon. Actually, I know he won't. Ash did some of her teen witch, Charmed, nonsense on him, make sure he sleeps. You know him...well, I guess you don't really, but if he was awake he wouldn't stay still for nothing," Lucifer said. While Dean's brain was obviously far more focused on Castiel and his weird feelings for the angel, he also could tell something was up with the archangel. He looked...sort of guilty. But Dean wasn't going to push it. He was Satan, so there could be a lot wrong with him.
"Okay...do you want me to help?" Dean asked. Lucifer chewed on the inside of his lip.
"Look, Mica told me about you finding Cassie's sketchbook..." Lucifer started.
"Fuck, I'm so tired of this. Just tell me. What was the deal with us?" Dean snapped. Lucifer looked taken aback, but then his expression softened.
"Deano, do you honestly want to know?" Lucifer asked. Dean nodded. "Okay then. Come on." Lucifer walked down the hallway and opened the door to one of the spare rooms.
"Do you mind?" Ash asked, emerging from underneath a pile of blankets. Lucifer put his hands up in surrender.
"We're trying to sleep," Meg said from a pile of pillows and blankets on the floor.
"And obviously we're interrupting. Jesus. You people," Lucifer grumbled, shutting the door and walking down to another one. This one was thankfully empty, and Lucifer sat down on the bed. Dean pulled up a chair from a desk in the corner and sat down.
"So?" Dean asked.
"So. Cassie...well, he had that whole prophecy thing. And so Gabriel and I wanted to keep him away from humans, but while we were out and about he started sneaking out. That's when you guys met. You wanted him to help you with Sammy, and you guys...I don't know, you guys just clicked. Something about you, Chuck only knows I think you're annoying as hell, but he liked something about you. You tried to deny your feelings for a really long time. Until of course, you were making out with Lisa the Snake," Lucifer said. Dean raised an eyebrow at him. He had no idea who Lisa was. "Some chick from your high school. Anyway, you were...uh, busy with her and you might have accidentally said Cas's name instead of hers. That's the version I heard from Sam." Dean opened his mouth but no sound came out. Accidentally saying the wrong person's name...not something he would expect to do. Least of all if the other person's name was a guy's.
"Did I ever do anything about it?" Dean asked, his mouth feeling suddenly dry. He swallowed and ran a hand through his hair. Lucifer looked at him.
"Yeah. Yeah, you did a lot about it," Lucifer said, trying to hide a smile.
"Jesus fucking Christ," Dean mumbled.
"Sorry, Deano. But someone had to tell you," Lucifer said. Dean stood up. "Hey." He all but ignored Lucifer. He walked down the stairs and out the front door. He needed time. He was sure his family would understand.
Michael went tense in Lucifer's arms as soon as he said he had something important to say. His heart automatically started beating twice as fast, pretty sure that whatever Lucifer was going to tell him was bad. Wasn't it always? What was it this time? The angels would have to leave. Something was wrong with Cas, with Gabe, Sam, or Dean?
"Hey, relax, Mica," Lucifer whispered into his hair, pulling the hunter closer to him. While Michael liked the fact that Lucifer wasn't jumping out of the bed, he still didn't like how nervous Lucifer sounded.
"What is it, Luce?" Michael asked softly, almost scared to know the answer.
"You know....you know the first thing I thought when I saw you?" Lucifer asked. Michael almost snapped at Lucifer. If he had something bad to say, you should say it without all the sugary stuff.
"No," Michael said instead.
"I thought...Chuck, my dad did a really good job with that one," Lucifer said, and despite the tightness in Michael's chest he couldn't help but laugh. "I mean, the moment I saw you, I knew I was going to get you into my bed one way or another," Lucifer joked and Michael elbowed him lightly. "I just didn't know that you were going to be the first human on the planet who knew who I really was. And I definitely didn't expect you to not care. Shit, I'm not any good at this stuff. What I'm trying to say is that I don't know if it was Gabe and Cassie who helped me open up to you, or if it was you who helped me open up to them or some combination of the two. All I know is that I barely know how I ever survived without you, Michael Winchester. And this is probably the worst possible time to do this, but..." Lucifer trailed off and Michael tensed again as he felt Lucifer's left hand grab his. And then he tensed, even more, when the archangel slid a ring onto his left ring finger. "I want to marry you. If you want to."
Charlie and Gilda were sitting on the couch, Charlie's legs thrown over Gilda's as they both drifted in and out of sleep. They were both jarred awake by someone yelling, "Yes, you idiot!" followed by a shriek and a thud. Charlie looked at Gilda.
"Don't worry, they're fine. Luci asked Michael to marry him. And I'm pretty sure that was Michael tackling him. And Lucifer falling off the bed," Gilda explained. And while Charlie would have loved to run upstairs and fangirl, she was quite comfortable. So instead she just shifted positions to rest her head on Gilda's shoulder and fell asleep.
So....hehehehe. Love you all.
I have the honor to be your obedient servant.
