Castiel awoke to the sound of rain. He dragged himself out of bed and rubbed at his back. His wings were retracted into his back. They were now stripped of feathers, but the bones didn't hurt as bad. He could actually walk without wishing he could tear his wings off completely. That didn't mean they didn't still hurt like hell. He rubbed the back of his neck and winced at how much the action reminded him of Dean. He couldn't go a second without thinking about Dean or Lucifer. Two people, he had let down.
He stepped out of his room into the dark hallway. He saw a note taped to his door and pulled it off.
Gone to find Sabrina (Get it ;)) Stay safe, Cassie.
---GabrielCastiel shook his head and jumped at the sound of a door opening. He looked down the hallway to see Sam standing in his doorway, running a hand through his ruffled hair. Sam looked at Castiel and then down the hallway the other way.
"Where's Gabe?" Sam asked. Castiel held out the note. Sam came and grabbed it, opening it up and reading it.
"This idiot," Sam mumbled.
"These idiots," Castiel corrected. "I think Michael and Dean are gone too."
"And Alfie," Adam muttered as he climbed the stairs. "At least he told me." Castiel nodded sympathetically at Adam. The boy was clearly upset about Alfie's absence.
"Don't worry. They'll be back soon," Castiel said. He wasn't sure if he was trying to comfort Sam, Adam, or himself. He figured it didn't really matter, they could all use the comfort. He was about to offer some food (not for himself, obviously, because he only liked peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and only when Dean made them) but he figured it might be comforting for the humans. Of course, he all but forgot about food when he heard a door open downstairs.
"Looks like that's them," Sam said. He started to go down the stairs, but Castiel grabbed his shoulder and reached into his jacket to pull out an angel blade. He couldn't afford to be too trusting, not after Lucifer.
"Stay here," Castiel said.
"Maybe I should go check..." Sam started. Castiel shut him up with a bitch face that could even compete with Sam's. Sam put his hands up in surrender and let Castiel go down the stairs.
Castiel wasn't exactly surprised by the scene when he got to the living room, because nothing seemed to be going well for him. Azazel stood in front of the door. He had John Winchester kneeling in front of him, dagger to his throat. Castiel honestly had forgotten about John after Lucifer, but the bastard had probably snuck off. Behind Azazel were three angels. Efram, Gadreel, and Esther. Castiel glared.
"Castiel I do hope you don't make this difficult. At the moment, all of your friends are gone. And you're looking a little pale...isn't it funny how roles reverse?" he asked. Castiel ignored the weakness in his knees and glared.
"Are you talking about when I tortured you?" Castiel asked. "Because I can make sure we do that again," Castiel threatened. Azazel chuckled.
"I don't think so. Your wings are gone. It's evident. And your grace is spent. You can't do anything to me," Azazel said with a chuckle. Castiel turned around as he heard a noise from upstairs. There was a sharp yell and then muffled thumps. A couple of seconds later, a fourth angel, Bartholomew, came down the stairs dragging a bleeding Sam behind him.
"Don't make me hurt you, brothers and sisters," Castiel said softly as Bartholomew threw Sam to the ground near Azazel. The demon smirked up at Castiel and before the angel could react, he had drawn the blade of the dagger across John's throat. The Winchester coughed and spurted on his blood before falling to the ground, dead.
"You know, I found out something interesting, Castiel. I don't need anyone else for this little spell. I just need Sam. In fact, I don't even need Sam. I need a half a gallon of his blood. So, I think I'll just slit his throat now. And unfortunately, Castiel, there's nothing you can do about it. He'll be dead before you get through one of your fellow ang..." Azazel's threat was cut off when Castiel raised his left hand. He honestly didn't know if he could do it. But as soon as he felt the little bit of power he had left begin to work, Castiel knew he didn't have to worry. Bartholomew was the first to go. His grace slipped from his twisting and writhing body. Esther, Efram, and Gadreel all went at the same time. Azazel was too confused to completely catch on, but the moment he reached for Sam, Castiel went after him.
His face contorted in horror as he was lifted off the ground with a flick of Castiel's wrist. He flinched as Castiel tightened his open hand into a fist. And then his mouth opened, his eyes going wide as he felt the pain. Castiel didn't want to take his soul. He didn't want to send him back to hell. He wanted to rip his being into so many little pieces he would never be able to come back. He wanted to tear the demon limb from limb. But he couldn't do that with Sam right there. So instead he decided to just destroy his being. The black smoke slipped from his body and attempted to escape. Castiel then tore it into pieces. He dismantled his soul, his very essence. Azazel wasn't coming back from that.
"Cas?" Sam asked as he managed to slip out of his bonds and stumble over to the angel.
"What's going on?" Meg asked as she emerged sleepily from the basement. Castiel opened his mouth to speak, to say or do something, but nothing happened. Instead, darkness rushed into his vision from all sides and passed out.
So this one was a bit shorter...I can't believe this is my second one in the span of, like, an hour. But I'm excited about my new ones, so I gotta finish this one first. I'm almost done actually...look forward to the climax! We've got...about ten chapters left? Although I've got a bunch of tests coming up (which I should honestly be studying for right now) so no promises, I'm hoping by next Friday we'll be done? Anyhow, you all are my favorite human/aliens. You make my day so much better with your fangirling and commenting.
I have the honor to be your obedient servant.
