Thea's POV
Cody never mentioned he had other siblings. I mean I don't think this kid in front of me is lying. He has the same brown eyes as his brother and the same brown hair yet somehow curled unlike Cody's.
"What about your dad? Where is he?" Mina continued to ask.
"I dunno." The boy easily shrugs off the topic.
"Okay, i'll be calling your brother to pick you up." Mina excuses herself and makes a phone call.
All of us went out and waited in the waiting area just outside her office which had a couch and a small rectangular table.
"I'm hungry." John exclaims.
Louis rolls his eyes yet commands the boy to sit down on the couch beside me.
"Thea i'm buying these kids' food, would you like anything?"
"Nah, i'm fine." I smiled and stayed with the kids.
John is just staring blankly at his fingers and it makes me uneasy if he's smart enough to know the truth.
"John?"
"Yeah?" He replies in a small weak voice.
"You know don't you?"
"Yeah, I may be young but i'm not stupid." He shrugs again and sighs.
"I'm sorry." I felt a bit guilty even though I know I had done nothing.
"It's alright. I still have Jane here-" he places his small hand on Jane's little ones. "and Cody."
I nodded, he's an extraordinary kid.
"About Cody.." I trail off. "What kind of brother is he to you?"
He stays silent, as if he hadn't even hear my question. His body is stiff and it's making me nervous and it convinces me that Cody abuses him too.
"John, are you okay?" I touch his shoulder.
"Mhm." He hums and plays with Jane to avoid my questions.
"Do you want hot choco?" I ask him after I spot the vending machine.
"Sure." He smiles.
I stood up and bought a drink for him and Jane. As soon as I pick up the drinks I heard the door bashed open, I quickly spun around to find Cody breathing deeply in and out.
I met John's gaze but he quickly looks away to look at his brother.
Cody walks over to me and I tense, tears start to flow down his cheeks and pulls me into a hug. He sobs into my neck and wrapped his arms around me tightly.
"Uh.. I'm sorry for your loss." I look at John to see him wide eyed and I wonder why.
That's when Cody was suddenly pulled away from me by Louis.
"Don't you ever get near her." Louis shoves Cody.
"What are you gonna do? Punch me?" Cody laughs in his face. "Look at you," he points out Louis appearance. "Do you even think you deserve her? She's too good for you."
"You take that back, you little-" before he throws a punch at Cody I stop him.
"Stop it Louis." I snap while hugging him from behind.
"No," Louis says harshly while he turned around to face me. "Explain to me why I should listen to you. He hugged you right in front of me."
"Then tell me an excuse why you deserve an explanation if you can't even give me one for leaving me for days." I answer him with an annoyed voice. I'm tired of this.
His anger slightly vanished and is now replaced with anxiety.
"But you promised me you'll never leave me." I can feel my heart break just from looking at his eyes as he says those words.
"I'm not saying I am, but please Louis i'm tired from arguing." I break eye contact with him and looked at the ground instead.
Before Louis could reply, Cody had already spoken.
"Oh please.. I don't have all day just skip to the part where you break-up right here, right now."
"Shut up!" Louis snaps at him.
Louis walks closer to me but I avoided him and went to walk to the little kids watching us argue. I kneel down in front of John and looked at Cody and asked him to take them home safely.
I hugged Jane and then John.
"Be Careful." I whispered in his ear.
"Same to you. I'm sorry." He whispered back. Right before I ask why he apologized Cody has Jane in his arms and is now calling John.
"Bye Thea." He just smiled.
"Bye John." I waved.
What I didn't know was what that sweet little boy knows about the truth.
