Chapter 10: Lilly

I was lying in bed with Roger the night before Halloween, sleeping peacefully when I heard Roger's phone ring. We both whined and woke up.

"Who is calling you at three in the morning?" I asked Roger. Roger picked up his phone and look at it.

"It's John," he said. "He never calls this late, maybe I should answer." I nodded and yawned, snuggling into Roger's chest as he answered the phone.

"Put him on speaker," I said. "I want to know if I need to yell at him for calling in the middle of the night." Roger chuckled softly and put the phone on speaker.

"Hi John," Roger said. "Do you realize what time it is?"

"I know," John said. "But this is important! Veronica is in labor!" My eyes widened and I sat up a little.

"Oh my God!" I said. "We have to go to the hospital!"

"Why?" Roger asked me. "It's late. We can meet the baby later."

"Roger that's rude!" I said. "Deaky wouldn't get mad if you woke him up at 3am because I was in labor!"

"I really wouldn't," John chimed in on the other line.

"And you certainly wouldn't be mad if I woke you up because our baby was coming," I said.

"Because it's our baby," he said. "I see no reason to go to the hospital at this time unless my wife is in labor and you're not... are you?"

"Roger I'm only three months pregnant," I answered. "If I was in labor we'd have serious problems."

"Are you two coming to the hospital or not?" John asked.

"Of course we are," I said, glaring at Roger. Roger sighed.

"Alright fine," he said. "But she's really in labor right? This isn't some Halloween prank?"

"Is it Halloween?" John asked. "I didn't even realize. Of course she's really in labor!"

"We're on our way, Deaky!" I said before hanging up the phone. Roger groaned as I made him get up and put clothes on.

When we got to the hospital, most of our friends were already there. Joe said he had called Rami and Lucy to let them know what was happening. They had to go back to London at the end of the summer, but they still wanted to know when this was happening. At least for them it was 11am right now.

"The doctor said it might be a while," John said. "She's only dilated about five centimeters. It might take a few more hours to get to ten."

"So you're saying you didn't need to wake me at three in the morning?" Roger snapped. I slapped his arm lightly and gave him a dirty look. I went to sit down next to Freddie and looked around at my other friends. Joe, Ben and Rory seemed to have some weird tension between them, but everyone else seemed happy.

"You seem oddly peppy for this hour," I said to Freddie.

"I hadn't gone to sleep yet, darling," Freddie said. "It's only three!" I laughed softly.

"Were you two having fun at this hour?" I asked him and Jim.

"No I was asleep," Jim said. "I don't know what this one was doing."

"I was writing," Freddie said. "I find I'm at my most creative... when the lights are out." He smirked and Jim rolled his eyes. I laughed and shook my head, turning towards Ben, Joe and Rory.
