You are safe now

Chapter 12

"Daniel, you finally accepted my invitation"
The King said with soft voice. His voice was so soft that at first you couldn't possibly think that this man has done so many wrong things.

"Yes, my King. We are sorry we came so late" Daniel apologized. "Oh, no you are not late. You came just in time", he said. "This weekend is our ball. I hope you didn't forget, I would love to see you and your mate there" he said and glanced at me. "Now come inside, I will see you tonight at dinner" was the last thing he said before disappearing into his palace.

"Come on" Daniel whispered to me. A maid escorted us to our room and a couple of guards brought our stuff.  "Are you okay?" Daniel asked me when the guards left, I let out a breath and went to sit at the huge bed. "Yes, I am just a little shaken that's all" I lied. I wasn't shaken, I was nervous and afraid.

"Everything's going to be OK, I promise" he said and kissed my forehead.

We stayed in our bedroom until the maid came to call us to dinner. She led us through long hallways and took turns at times. That Palace was so big that you could easily get lost, I was surprised that the maids knew exactly where they were going without hesitation.

When we were finally at the dining room Daniel took my hand and held me close to him. We sat near the King who was talking to a blonde next to him. "Good evening my guests" the King told us when he stopped paying attention at the blonde girl who was annoyed of how easily the King changed subject. She stood up and left the dining room, but not before she checked Daniel out...Knew she was no good, I thought.

"How are you today, my dear?" The King asked me. I looked at his gorgeous blue eyes and said "I am fine thank you, and you?", "I'm perfectly fine" he said with a dark smile.
"Daniel, I must say that your mate is a beauty" he commented. Daniel nodded and looked at me with a smile, "Thank you, my Lord" Daniel said turning his head and attention back to the King.

We ate almost in silence. The King made different questions now and then, mostly about us being mates. How do I put up with this world, if I am okay with Daniel being who he is. Of course I told him everything is fine and that Daniel and I are perfect, but I don't think I convince him even though I was speaking the truth. His look judgmental and his eyes looked like ice, it was hard for me to concentrate when he was paying attention only to me.

"You seem to be okay with everything" The king commented, "Have you mated?" he asked and by that time Daniel choked with his wine a little bit. After a second he was alright, but he was looking awkwardly at his plate. "Have you even tell her about mating?" He asked Daniel, "I know about mating, sir" I replied before Daniel, "Please call me Richard. And have you?" he asked again. "No, not yet, but soon" I promised him.

I think I saw a small smile playing at Daniel's lips, but I am not sure. The sure thing is that Daniel surely liked my comment, there was no doubt in that.  We kept Small talking, after a while I was better with being to... Richard's presence. At first he is quite scary, but after a while he becomes almost normal.

Daniel on the other hand, never left my hand. He always held me close to him somehow, not that I was complaining. "So, will Clair come to the ball?" Richard asked me, I looked at him confused. "Oh, don't look so confused, of course I would know anything about you. I know everything about every human mate to my wolves" he said with a cold, fake smile. "Before or after you kill her?" I replied as coldly as he had spoken to me. Daniel squeezed my hand, but I had already spoken every last word of my sentence.

Daniel might had take back by the words coming from my mouth, but the King seemed to enjoy it. "Fiesty, you don't seem like it" he commented, Daniel squeezed me once more, probably thinking that I would reply. I stayed quiet, but only for Daniel's sake. That King might hurt him if I said something more, that's why I shut up and moved closer to Daniel whose arm wrapped around me in a quick move.

"You do love her Daniel? Or is it just the bond?" he asked. I looked at him confusing, but I knew what he meant. Daniel might be with me only because of the bond, but he had promised me he loved me so many times before. "I do love her my Lord and its not only because of the bond. I see in her what I was looking for at the woman of my life. And I guarantee you that she is the woman of my life" he finished.

His words were so soft, so truthful that I almost cried. He really loved me and even though he had told me a thousand of times before it never gets old. "You speak the truth Daniel I can see that, but she is human" he objected. "I am aware of that and I have no problem with it. I still love her" said Daniel.

Richard looked at us for a second before standing up and saying to us "Go rest and invite some people at the ball, I am sure Clair, you would love that" he said looking at me. I nodded my head and followed Daniel out of the room.

When we reached our room Daniel closed the door and closed me into his arms. I giggled while I was buried at his chest, "Is that you telling me I did well?" I asked me still giggling. He laughed out loud at me, "Maybe and it's me telling you that I love you" he said and I smiled at him. "Oh, I know. I am the woman of your life after all" I teased him, he smiled and whispered to my ear

"Yes, you are"

The next morning I woke up in Daniel's strong and warm arms. I opened my eyes only to meet a bright light coming from outside. The sun was looking right at us and it felt like it was smiling at us so I smiled back. "Good Morning" Daniel said, I knew he knew I was awake so it wasn't weird for him to be the first one who said Good Morning.
 "Good Morning, love of my life" I teased him once more. "Are you going to tease me for long?" he asked me trying to sound annoying, but I knew he was just amused. "Yep, pretty much" I replied.

With a quick move I was under him while he was on top of me smiling wide. "You are a big tease" he told me, his nose was touching mine and at least for me it was quite difficult to reply him while he was so close. "Daniel" I whispered, "Yes" he whispered back, "I know I am a tease" I told him and pushed him on his back and got on top of him. "Wow, someone likes to play games" he commented. I smiled innocently at him and leaned in to kiss him.

As soon as our lips touched the familiar sparks erupted. It's like this every time we kiss, and I just can't get bored of it. Daniel's arms wrapped around my waist and held me close while our lips moved in sync. "I love you" he whispered to me, I smiled once again and whispered back "I love you more" and he chuckled, "Don't believe that" he said. "I said it, I don't care if you believe it or not" I said and he looked at me with wide eyes. "Okay then" he said and pushed me on my back and started tickling me.

My laugh must have heard all around the palace, but I didn't care. A knock on the door made us stop. A petite girl walked in, "The King requested your presence in breakfast" she said and me and Daniel nodded. "Thank you" I said and then she left. "Let's get ready for breakfast" Daniel said and pulled me up with him.

We got dressed and went to the huge dining room. It was different today, there was more light and there was a pleasant mood all around. We sat next to the King who was alone and waited for us. "Good Morning, my King" Daniel said and I just nodded to the King. "Good Morning" he said.

We started talking, just a little bit and then the King cleared his throat. "I took the liberty and invited your friends. Clair, Jenni and Luc" he said, me and Daniel snapped our heads to the King at the same time. Two seconds ago the door of the dining opened and our friends came in.

The King looked at the with wide eyes and went to Jenni first, even though she was at the back. "Hello" he said with a smile and Jenni nodded.... He looked at her with a weird loving way. Loving?
