Sam rolled over in the car, hitting his head against his brother's arm. He winced and sat up, rubbing the top of his head. Sleeping in cars sucked. He growled under his breath, trying to get comfortable. Stupid long arms. Stupid long legs. Stupid, stupid. It wasn't like he had asked to be six foot two. And he wasn't even done growing. He was fifteen and looked like a grown man. Never mind the fact that he couldn't fit into a car comfortably. He sighed and rested in a semi-comfortable position, sitting with the back of his head against the window and his feet extended all the way into his brother's space. Dean shot him a glare, but didn't say anything. Instead he just went back to texting. Sam pulled out his phone to check the time. 5:45 in the morning.
"We're almost there. I'm sorry guys," said their case worker in the front. Sam gave a kind smile and a shrug, both of which were interrupted by a yawn. Sam turned back to his phone to check his texts.
Adam_In_Hell: Dude. You up?
Sam rubbed his eyes to clear away the bluriness and attempt to respond to his best friend. He knew Michael and Adam were in a car too, on their way to the same place as Sam and Dean. Sam was honestly glad that his the Milligans were going to be at the same place as them. After all they had been through together at the last foster home....well, family has to stick together.
Sam_Losechester: Yeah, sorry, I just woke up. Apparently we'll be there soon. What do you think our new foster home is gonna be like?
Adam_In_Hell: No idea. Hopefully nice. Michael is asleep. Should I wake him up?
Sam_Losechester: No idea. Probably. Dean is texting his girlfriend.
Adam_In_Hell: Lucky. I can't believe he's already met his soulmate. Do you want to meet yours?
Sam wrinkled up his nose. Adam was his best friend, but Sammy didn't want the yougner Milligan to judge him. Since he had first started getting impressions from his soulmate, he had wanted to meet them. How could he not? The idea that he was literally connected to someone, body and soul...well, it seemed really intense. And really amazing. But he had been concerned lately for his soulmate. Whoever they were, they weren't doing great. Sam could feel their pain. And damn, did they have a lot of it.
"Welcome to Lawrence, Kansas," their case worker said from the front, saving Sammy from having to answer Adam. He put his phone back in his pocket and then looked out the window at the sleepl Kansas town. It looked like a million other Kansas towns, except Lawrence was bigger. They had spent a couple of months in Linwood which was nearby and where Dean had met his soulmate, Lisa. She was probably thrilled that Dean was going to be so close instead of six hours away in Syracuse.
"Okay, so this foster home is only temporary. We're going to find you boys a better place. How's your face feeling?" the case worker adressed this last part at Sam. Sam brushed his fingertips across the darkening bruise on his cheek and shrugged. It didn't hurt too bad, but he didn't really want to go to his first day of class looking like he had gotten in a fight. That was more Dean's thing anyway.
"Fine," Sam answered. The case worker nodded and pulled up to a house at the end of a long driveway. It was a nice house, quaint, painted white with pale blue window shutters and a dark blue front door. Sam slid out of the door and grabbed his suitcase and backpack from the trunk. His entire life fit in a suitcase and a backpack. That was sad.
"Hey guys. How was the ride?" Michael asked Sam and Dean as he climbed out of the car that was already in the car. Adam climbed out behind him, looking as grumpy as ever. Sam might have had a better bitch face, but at least it wasn't his permanent expression like Adam's.
"Alright," Sam said. Michael nodded and looked at the house.
"Be polite, okay? And don't yawn without covering your mouth," Michael said to Adam, who rolled his eyes. Michael pinched his arm and Adam yelped. "And definitely don't do that." When Michael went to get their suitcases, Sam stuck his tongue out at Adam, who flipped him off.
