Dean walked out of the bathroom to find Adam standing right in front of it. He looked to his left and right, trying to figure out what Adam was staring at. He then waved a hand in front of the younger boy's face, which seemed to snap him out of it.
"What's the deal, kid?" Dean asked. Adam huffed.
"Nothing, I just spaced out. I'm so tired," Adam said.
"That's probably because you didn't sleep. It's Saturday, how about you just go back to bed?" Dean asked.
"No, Sam asked me to walk with him to the Novak house so he can get Gabriel home. You know how it is, what with the wheelchair. I was going to see Alfie too, but I think he'll be okay if I just come back here and sleep," Adam said, ending the statement with a yawn.
"Yeah, how about I walk with them instead and you just stay here and sleep?" Dean asked. "When do they want to go there?"
"Now," Adam said with another yawn.
"I'm going over there anyway to pick up Cas. So I'll take them. You just...sleep. Where's your brother?" Dean asked.
"Your guys' room. He fell asleep...I think I'm going to sleep in there, do you mind if I use your bed?" Adam asked.
"No, keep an eye on him for me. You're a good brother," Dean said, ruffling Adam's hair. Adam yawned and gave him a shaky thumbs-up. Dean frowned as the younger boy trudged down the hallway. Adam's muscle spasms weren't getting any better, and Dean figured at some point he'd have to talk to Michael about it. But seeing as Michael was going through his own shit, now wasn't the time.
"Hey, you two weirdo's ready to go?" Dean asked, poking his head into Sam and Adam's room. Sam and Gabriel were sitting on the bed, playing on the Nintendo Switch that Michael had spent half a paycheck on to spoil the boys. Dean didn't know how Michael managed to do it all.
"No, let me beat my moose soulmate first," Gabriel said. Dean, who had entered the room, spun around to turn the tv off before turning back to his brother.
"Your what?" Dean asked. Sam grinned and Dean, despite the fact that Gabriel annoyed the crap out of him, was thrilled.
"Soulmate," Sam said. Dean pulled his brother off the bed to pull him into a hug. He then high-fived Gabriel (he would have hugged him, but the whole paralysis thing made hugs very hard and awkward).
"Dude, that's great. I'm so happy for you guys," Dean said.
"Yeah, but could you just..." Gabriel sighed. "Not tell anyone yet? I think Michael and Lucifer definitely don't need that, and Cassie..."
"What about Cas?" Dean asked. Gabriel's eyes went wide as he realized what he had said. "Wait, what's the deal with Cas?"
"I don't know, the whole not-your-soulmate thing still bothers him," Gabriel said, shrugging.
"But..." Dean started. He then realized that this wasn't one of those things he needed to make about him. He could just be happy for Sam. And, seeing as he was going out with Cas today anyway, he had plenty of time to ask. "Either way, congratulations, and I won't say anything."
"Good, thanks, Deano," Gabriel said. "Hey, my beautiful moose man, you mind helping me onto my trusty steed?"
"If by trusty steed you mean your wheelchair, then no. I'm not a horse," Sam huffed. "I'm a moose."
"Doesn't mean I can't ride you," Gabriel said.
"Oh, god, I don't belong here," Dean huffed. "I'll meet you two outside." He stepped out into the crisp autumn air, still looking forward to the date that he had planned for that night. He was trying to not think about what Gabriel had said. Everyone knew that Dean and Cas weren't soulmates, but that didn't matter to Dean. Castiel knew him better than anyone, and that included Lisa.
