Castiel was sort of horrified to see Lisa at the haunted house. He was even more horrified as he realized there was no way that she hadn't just seen him and Dean kissing.
"I..." Lisa started.
"Hey, Lis! I got a funnel cake, these things are..." Benny said as he emerged out of the crowd. Castiel only vaguely remembered him as the guy he had run into at the party.
Benny dropped the funnel cake.
This seemed to shock everyone out of their state of paralysis, as all of them turned to him and then moved forward as if the cake was a fallen elderly man who had just suffered a heart attack.
"Oh shit," Benny said. If the situation wasn't so horrible, Castiel would have laughed at how funny the swear sounded in Benny's accent. Castiel didn't laugh. He stared down at the dropped funnel cake as Lisa dropped to her knees and looked at it as if it was her lost love. Castiel winced at the comparison he made in his head. He shouldn't really think about her love considering he had just been french kissing her love. Not exactly his place.
"I'm sorry, do you uh..I have some cash. Let me buy you one," Dean said.
"Nah, it's okay, man. I can get another one. They aren't too expensive," Benny rambled.
"Oh, good. I still feel bad," Dean said.
"Really, not your fault at all. I just am clumsy, really," Benny said.
"Are we actually going to talk about what just happened?" Lisa asked, looking up at Dean. Castiel was standing a bit away from the three of them, pulling on the sleeves of his long trenchcoat. He didn't belong here. What had he been thinking? He was making a mistake with Dean, he had always known that. Castiel Novak didn't get to be happy. He was unmarked. He was a freak. He was the exact opposite of what a guy like Dean needed.
"What just happened?" Benny asked. Castiel realized numbly that Benny had no idea what had just happened.
"Dean, just tell me what's going on," Lisa said, ignoring Benny. Castiel was barely listening now. He was sure he was on the verge of a panic attack. Everything around him seemed to be spinning, the lights of the haunted house blinding in front of him and there were far too many voices. Castiel needed to get out of there. He needed to escape this How could he ever be so stupid?
"I'm in love with Cas," Dean said quietly. Castiel was yanked from his thoughts by this.
"You what?" Castiel asked in a whisper.
"Cas, I've told you a million times that I love you, when are you going to start believing me?" Dean asked, spinning away from Lisa to look at Castiel. "I'm crazy about you. How could you not believe that? I never stop thinking about you. I dream about you. Every single thing reminds me of you. I start to think about summer and then I think about flowers and then I think about bees, and then I think about you. I think about being a kid, and I think about how much I hated school except for lunch and then it's pb and j sandwiches, and then my thoughts are right back to you. I'm so in love with you, and you can't seem to believe me," Dean finished. Now the lights were all blurry, as was the rest of the scene in front of Castiel but that was probably because his eyes were filled with tears.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Lisa asked. Castie rubbed at his eyes, clearing them so that he could see Dean stare at him for a long second before turning back to Lisa.
"I didn't know how to. I know that's not an excuse...it's just all so messed up. It was a lot. I...I didn't intend for this to happen. I'm sorry," Dean mumbled. Lisa stared at Dean for a long second, and then, she approached him.
